Was it frowned on to plan vacation during the Circuit Overseers visit?

I have noticed in my hall, and others, that to plan a vacation or to be away during any of the upcoming CO's visits was frowned upon. It was said you weren't being responsible and were disregarding the counsel to make that a week of "special activity."

Sometimes, it is not know when a CO will next visit. Maybe you plan to go away for a week and then it's announced the CO is coming the week you're away. What do you do? Cancel your plane tickets? Lose money on hotel reservations? Not take the kids out just to hear some old dude spout on about 1914?

Did this ever happen to you and if so, what did you do about it?

    Greetings truthseeker,

As a true dyed in the wooler, our family would never have missed the (as you correctly phrased it) "special week of activity ™ ". I do recall that some who were not the butt-kissing, brown-nosing, "got to get to the top" amibitious ones, had no problem with continuing on with their vacation plans. They''d go to the neighboring congregation and listen to the Circuit Serpents ™ bilge when they'd get home from vacation. They'd also make a point of making sure that certain "Divine Ones" would know that they would in fact be going to the neighboring congregation so as to not be looked down upon by those "Divine Ones". I heard it many times that ones who missed those "special arrangements ™ " had a lack of appreciation for the provsions provided them by the FDS ™.

I'm reminded of the scene in Star Wars when the Emperor unexpectedly visits the Death Star to personally oversee the construction progress. Everyone is shi*tting themselves and running around in constant fear.

Once a Witness told my dad . . ."The circuit servant's here next week . . no shit!". And my dad didn't shit the whole week.

    ROTFLMAO, Gary! You're a hoot.

No good JW would intentionally plan a vacation during the CO or DO visit. Once my aunt and uncle had a trip to Hawai'i planned far in advance that turned out to coincide with the CO's visit--and uncle was an elder!

As I recall, after a great and tearful discussion, they cancelled their trip. Only got about half their money back, and had to start saving again for their once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Is it frowned upon to know the CO is coming and disregard it to stay home and watch Will and Grace reruns??? Is it frowned upon to dread CO visits?

    What's the big deal?

I thought the C.O.'s were imperfect men................just like us.

The way some act, you would think Jesus himself, was visiting the congregation.

It was frowned on!! My family had a time share so it was a set week during the year and of course the C.O's visit sometimes fell on that week...So, instead of skipping his upbuilding and encouraging visit we would go to the hall over when he visited there
