Some people stay because they honestly believe it's the true religion. There are many people whose lives before becoming a Witness were not all that pretty but when they became Witnesses their lives improved, in their view anyway. That is not a small thing for many people.

I don't think the Witness religion is the paradise they like to advertise themselves as but neither do I think its the total dump many on this board like to characterize it as either.

Just my opinion. And no, I'm no Watchtower plant. LOL

Fear of displeasing Jehovah is a card that is always played from the platform. People are so afraid of dying. They don't want the pleasures of being alive to end...ever.

I once asked a "sister" if she would continue to do the things that Jehovah demanded of her if she would absolutely NOT be given everlasting life. She thought about it for a few minutes, then said......no.

Religion is a web spun by the spider. Many people will agree that they are caught in the web. They avert their eyes when the spider eats its prey.

Fear. I'm referring to those who remain jw's when they know inside it's bologna, and, have no one to lose in the process.

Habit, fear, guilt...not knowing anything else is out there, and being told that anything that is out there is BAD. I think most are raised in it and don't know how to get out of it without tearing their whole world apart.

I would also have to say fear for many. Though what is feared is different for different people. I know some who are afraid of having to make a whole new set of friends out in 'the world.' I also find that because of the convoluted reasoning WT uses there are JWs who don't really understand the doctrine. Particularly the crazy stuff like 'present truth' and the 'faithful slave.' Many of those are in it for the association and for their version of the belief system. Though that seems to work to the WT Society's advantage. This is because when these JWs are confronted with the real doctrine they just come back with: "Oh thats not what we believe." Its a crazy system of mind control.

I think a lot of them like to feel special like they are god's chosen people and somehow better than everyone around them. Others are scared of what will happen if they leave the organization because they believe the armageddon lie. Some stay because all their friends, family, acquaintances or employers are there. Others because the world is painted as a scary place and the organization as the safe and the familiar.
