I've made friends with a jw gal and her husband. They bring by current literature and we chat every so often Neither of them know I'm an ex-jw and I've said what I know about jw comes from having a sister who was one of jw's, but I just made that part up. Anyway this gal and I hit it off right away and she has a real love of birds and having been to her house we have talked about her love of them. I've known her now about 2 years since we live in the same housing development. She had called at our door back then and have become friendly with each other.
Well yesterday I took her a house flag that has birds and birdhouses on it and says bless this nest. Well she loved that I bought it for her and we chatted for 4 hrs. Almost nothing about the bible or anything but just friendly stuff.
I believe we can be there for jw's in ways outside their religion. If something pops up that upsets them within the religion we're there to listen and be a friend. The other thing is they learn that outsiders are great folks. Just don't try to get then involved in anything that is condemned by the religion or they will think your demonic. When my friend tells me she loves being a jw I just say that is wonderful that it gives her so much good in her life. I know their whole family story, and I share with her what I can.
I hope you visit with him will work out well.
