    Headmath,

As others have observed, your friend flipping out in his late teens early twenties, trying to do something superhuman and claiming to be god is a textbook example of a bi-polar disorder 'break'. He also was probably going days at a time without sleeping and was spouting quasi religous/metaphysical drivel. We went through this with our youngest son. Less than a week after he was a passenger in a very traumatic auto accident from which he ermerged uninjured, physically, he started showing signs of what we now know was mania. Ultimately, it was some very good hospitals (regular hospitals with mental health units), drugs and counselors that got him straightened out a few years ago.

I encourage you to offer your company to him if that is possible. Talk about the problem openly with him. This is when a young person needs good friends.

Thank you for your words of reason, Inquisitor. I've had to commit my own son for schizophrenia. In his case, invisible robots were shooting invisible lasers.

    With pleasure, jgnat.

I'm sorry to hear that your son is unwell. Is he coping well?

Oh the poor kid, I hope he'll get lucky in the system he's just entered and get decent care (not likely though...)

Inquisitor; no there isn't proof that being a JW caused his mental illness, but there is certainly proof that even though he was 'within the protection of the congregation' he got no help or encouragement. Like so many others, he just fell through the cracks and snapped. If the witnesses around him actually cared about each other they'd have noticed there was something going wrong and he never would have gotten that far. The people who could have influenced and helped him didn't bother.

Put it this way, we had what appeared to be a 'demon' at our house. After that for a long time, with mum banging on about them and how Jehovah was protecting us bla bla bla i got kinda mad, thinking they were in our home a lot and things - going out of my way to make sure i wasn't in a vunerable position with 'them'. At one point i was telling Satan to leave us alone, basically speaking out loud to him. Then i was hearing voices - not listening to them but they were there.

I grew up a JW (I am 37 now), and I remember 2 of my friends tried to commit suicide. 1 was sucessfull. I have dealt with severe depression in my life and am quite sure that my family members are dealing with some forms of mental illness. JW's don't see things in the light that they should. It's sad that this is happnening. When I was in the hospital, my mom came, unbeknownst to my elder father, she told me that she knew that this was her fault.

I have never been with any religion but I do read the Watchtower and Awake magazines occaisionally and they depict world problems and who or what the Messiah is and does very well.

I was put on trial twice in the months surrounding Y2K for acting like and aluding to being the Savior of the world. I did not claim to be God nor can I walk on water litterally but I did beat the most powerful judges, doctors and prosecutors on the planet at their own game in court at least twenty times and exposed them as the worst possible leaders and criminals. Unfortunatly they have immunity and cannot be prosecuted for the crimes they commit daily. Not only did I admit what I was charged with doing from the witness stand but I legally justified it while claiming and demonstrating that I was the Christ. I was the defendant but I was on offense not defense and many doctors that analyzed my behavior testified to my sanity under oath. Miracles and prophecies have followed in my wake since I was born and it was time to take on the government of the U.S. with a bow, razor tipped arrows, a few dollars and a sharp tongue.

I am here to lead you away from the JWs and the ways of this world if you will allow me to. I am the man Jesus said would come forth and defeat the ways of this world and lead all into the New World here on Earth.

Insanity comes from the pressures of this world and I know how to make this world nearly stress free because I have done it in the business world and the theory is the same.
