The problem with the cross vs. stake argument is that it's irrelevant. The real point is that Jesus died for us. The issue is a straw man debate tactic used by the GB to "prove" they alone have the "truth."

I think the bible writers assumed it WAS clear! I mean they said "he died on the cross" They said "the five points of the cross" etc etc etc! In fact it was EXTREMELY clear! It it STILL extremely clear to (everyone not a witness that is!)
If the bible writers had spelled it out any more it would have been morbid and inane to the point of stupidity! I mean can't you see it?
"Firstly the roman bigus had two soldiers one dickus and one flexus attach the two pieces of the cross together. The Longer "body" of the cross was approx 12 ft long. The shorter crossing member was 5ft 3 inches. The two pieces were slightly notched to make attachment similar and provide a more finished look. They used 4 nails to secure the attachment point after the notches were set etc..." Mathew 28:1-50
Of course the witnesses would find some way to say "THATS NOT WHAT THEY INTENDED TO SAY!"
To me the most damning evidence is the fact that someone hung from a stake will pass out within 8-10 minutes and die within 15-20 minutes max! So there is no way that jebus could have been alive 2 or 3 hours after being hung up...
CASE CLOSED END OF STORY!

Have you read Leolaia's thread on the subject? The definitive treatment in my view:

I don't think people are getting the question. Most everyone is giving reasons why it had to be a cross not a stake, but I don't think that's the question...
kgavar KNOWS that he was killed on a cross kgavar understands that! What he wants to know is, basically how could the writers of the bible have been more clear in their verbage...
I don't think they could have been more clear myself but that's just me!
Or am I misunderstanding the question?

Sounds very monty pythonish to me!It doesn't matter what he died on.
Oh and that is a good question, what would be the right word?
