Bienvenidos al foro el Mariachi!
I've left Jehovah's Witnesses. That doesn't mean I've left Jehovah God. To sy so one would have to assume that to leave the Witnesses equals leaving God, an assumption which cannot be Biblically proven!
I am well know for taking positions on this forum in support for the Bible and reliance on god. In fact, I've been called a "Fundie", or fundamentalist by such luminaries here as AlanF and Sixofnine, a charge which Alan realised later is not exactly correct. What I am is a fader who is rethinking his beliefs and trying to figure out for himself "what is truth" (John 18:38).
My basic position is to hold with my basic beliefs unless or until I can prove them to myself or others prove to my satisfaction, from God's word or overwhelmingly otherwise that they are wrong. My reason for that position is to insure that I do not fall as easily into the same trap that I did when the Witnesses showed me what I considered a little truth and then led me into massive error (are you noting this LeoLaia and Narkissos? I suspect Leo has already figured it out, but I am not so sure about Nark).
I am using this forum theraputically as a catharsis to get some unpleasantness out of my system. Many here do that. But it doesn't mean I've left God nor that I don't appreciate some legacies from my time in Dubdom. I have my lovely wife whom I still love and adore and wouldn't have had if I hadn't gone through some of the crap I did as a Witness to get that pretty little rose. I did begin my studies in Greek and Hebrew during my time in the organization and do have a certain decent level of knowledge of the Bible from that time as well, that is aside from the teachings from the WTBTS of what it thinks the Bible teaches.
Sure many are critical of the organization and what it teaches. Give it a critical analysis and you will see that there is much about both the organization and its teachings which falls short of what Jesus said and showed real Christians should do and believe. For instance, he said that Christians should not stand in judgement of others (Matt. 7:1-5). And yet, judging others, both in and out of the organization, is the favorite sport of Witnesses at all levels of the organization. Acting on those judgements is just as popular as well. Time and time again Jesus condemned the mutiplication of rules and regulations by religious leaders thus invalidating God's law through their rules and burdening their followers, one such example is found at Matthew chapter 15, there are many others. and yet, the leaders of Jehovah's Witnesses embrace what he condemned and multiply the laws and rules, both official and unofficial, to the point that it goes beyond anything which Jesus authorised and places a heavy burden on those who try to comply and they enforce those rules and regulations with a vengance. Think for yourself and see if everything I say isn't true!
For those who've been through that oppressive system and aren't quite sure what to do, criticising is the only cathartic! And for many, a desire to see others not fall into that system demands that they tell others what they know to be true. You may not like it, but they have every right to do that. And for those who still believe in God, that doesn't make them fighters against God. think about it Mariachi, don't just dismiss it out of hand.
As you can see, you've been welcomed here despite your in your face condemnation of folks on this forum. A number, like myself have tried to explain where we are coming through with some patience. That, I am sure, is more than you probalby got from the elders. You will find others who are not so pateint here, but hey, you'll find all kinds most anywhere you go!
Stay around, draw up a seat, and look around. Even if you decide to go back to the Witnesses and get yourself reinstated and be a good little publisher you'll find yourself welcome around here, though you will be expected to "put up a defence" for any JW apologetics you may offer. This is a forum where views of any sort are not sacrosanct and everyone has to be prepared to defend what they say. but it is also a forum where support for those who are in bad times can be found as well.
For someone like you who is going through a shunning, we encourage you to take a good, hard look at the organization which has mandated your shunning and what it teaches. Some want you to measure it critically against the Bible and others to measure it against good commen sense. We also ask you to do it with objectivity. And many here will help you in that endeavor, though how they say it might not seem sop caring.
I wish you the best in your journey through life!
