Why JW's know so much about the Bible

A JW explains how their group can tell Jesus returned 'invisibly' on another discussion board:

You are right that you would probably need to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses to see all the things that we see. Jehovah's Witnesses study the Bible in ways that a lot of other people don't. We dig into it, read it, understand and see meaning in scriptures that for a lot of people don't make much sense.

There isn't one scripture that convinces us that the sign of Jesus presence is here. There are many, and them taken together are convincing. But for me to convince you of that within a few words it would be difficult. You would need a deep understanding of the various scriptures of the Bible in order to really see what the Bible is talking about. True there have always been wars. Not on the scale that we have had since 1914.

I wonder if this JW would like to 'study' the Bible with any of us in order to 'help' us understand it in ways that a lot of other people don't.

Sure they do, then totally rely on wts publications to help them understand what they've just read actually means.

To describe that as a bible study is a contradiction in terms. It's an indoctrination session, using one of their publications designed to inculcate their beliefs into the victims head, with the odd usually out of context scriptue thrown in.

If God wanted to send a message to mankind through the bible, surely he would have made it so that everyone who wanted to understand it could do, without this mountain of literature that the wts has produced over the years.

I don't personally believe the bible anymore, but it seems to me that it's the wts interpretation of it that deliberately makes it complicated and hard to understand. It's their version of what it all means, which they are regularly changing due to "new light" anyway, that doesn't make much sense, not the scriptures themselves.

JW's don't "study" the Bible they study some book or magazine that is published by the WT.

"dig into it" ..... If they want to know something about a scripture or event in the Bible etc. where do they look in Watchtower publications.

Do they do any independant research into it then? Checking over other sources besides what the Watchtower tells them it says.

What they rely on is some JW, probably one of those mysterious "celebrated scholars", in Brooklyn doing the "study" then they just accept whatever he comes up with.

Hi Honestly, and good morning all.

Yeah right! that's why my wife and I were advised to stick with WT publications and not look to deeply, you don't want to get ahead of the FDS do you? Yeah their holding us back! That's just too funny! we were doing research on the other books mentioned in the bible and were told not to. They don't know what real research is, and those who try are stopped. unless their using approved WTS material. What a JOKE! Acadian

There is 10 times more study done in their publications than in the Bible itself by any JW. Just compare their Watchtower literature to their Bible. What do you see? The literature is underlined, specific points highlighted, proof texts written in the margins. These books are studied as if they are the Bible. The only 'Bible' study is using the scriptures to 'proove' that what is in these books is 'the truth'.
Ask a JW what the importance of having Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon and they will look at you like your crazy.
    'Bible Study' at its finest.

Of course they see things in the scriptures most people don't because what they "see" is totally made up by the FDS. Since they rely on the FDS as if what they say is the word of God - the believe it all without questioning and never look into the bible themselves.

Most JWs I knew thought they could never understand the bible without the "aide" of the FDS anyway so why would they try to read the bible without the publications? This is exactly the way the FDS wants it. Lilly

In other words, the JW understanding of the "end times" cannot be reached by reading scriptures in context.

As I said an a different thread, they are thier own worst enemy when they attempt to defend thier beliefs...

    Oye Vey!

Ok where do I begin, first someone mentioned that the Watchtower publications tell them what to understand in the bible, This is so true, what they are actually learning is indoctrination into the ORGs beliefs. With out the tracts and had to go on bible alone they would be lost.

I hate the way that when you confront a JW they can NOT answer you alone, meaning they pull out the bible with ready made scriptures for every situation, say you challenge them on something like the blood issue, they have by memory every verse of the bible that they are to quote from, in some attempt to seem smart or like they know what they are talking about, they learn how to react to this every thursday.

The JW bible is a molested version first authorized by the Catholic church, they only made changes to suit their needs, if you only have a JW version then I suggest you get a real bible and compare.

Why do JW's know so much about the bible?

    I never thought they did

Truer words have never been spoken. The J-Dubs don't study the Bible. They study books about the WTB&T$'s interpretation of the Bible.
