Diagnosis - Skin Cancer......

I had a lesion removed from my right cheek, just below the eye and to the right of my nose a week ago yesterday. Doc did it in the office and indicated he did not think it was malignant - but SOP requires a path test to confirm. It was malignant I was told today. I do not know what type of cancer it was - but I know he needs to go back in a cauterize more deeply into the skin to make sure that no cancerous cells remain. I will call tomorrow to set up the second visit to do that.

I don't know exactly how I should feel about it at the moment - I am a bit worried, but also relieved that we removed what we thought was just benign, and may have averted real issues down the road. I am anxious about the whole thing - and have no education in this area yet.

Terrible! I hope everything goes okay for you. Make sure your doctor answers all your questions. In situations like this it must feel better to know all the facts and to have some sense of control over where you are going.

Jeff, please make sure you follow through and find out what kind it is.......that is very important. You are doing the right thing, and really, worrying about it will NOT cure it nor make it any better.......in fact, it will just bring negative energy into your energy aura..........I will be sending healing thoughts and energy to you.........Be Blessed, Dearest Birthday Buddy!!

    Hugs,

    Terri

I almost know what you're feeling. My 21 year old son has a spot on his back that went from tiny spot to bigger than a quarter and black and purple and raised. It looks exactly like every picture you've ever seen of melonoma. I set up an apointment with the dermatologist tomorrow.

I hope they got it all. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about that Jeff. I know talk is cheap, but most of the time I've found that things are just fine in the end and then I kick myself for being a worrier. For right now, take care of the lesion and make sure you're satisfied w/the Dr's explanations.

I missed your birthday. Happy Birthday!!

Juni I missed yours too Terri! Happy Birthday!!

    Hi Jeff -

Jeff [of the slightly worried class at the moment]

    I understand completely. I'm a cancer survivor (Hodgekins Lymphoma; 8 yrs, 3mos, 3wks, 1days since diagnosis).

Be pleased with yourself for seeing a doctor. Be very pleased with - and very grateful to - your doctor for being diligent. Set and Keep the appointment to more agressively excise the area.

Write down questions that you have for your doctor. Bring the list with you so you remember what you want to ask.

Don't borrow trouble. Most skin cancer is highly treatable when caught and treated early. This was the hardest for thing for me to get under control when I was in the diagnosis and staging period of my treatment. I kept thinking too far ahead about all the things that could happen and how it might affect me and my life. It wore me out - a whole month before I even began therapy. The only thing you can really do now is make the appointment and compile a list of questions. Other than that, get plenty of rest and don't waste time worrying too much about something that may already be resolved / fixed anyway.

Easier said than done. I know!!

Hugs to you and your family. It ain't easy. But it is bearable.

Make sure you find time for fun every day. It will help alot while you're waiting.

    -Aude.
