My mother thought I listened to too much music (top 40) in 1970 when I was 14 so took my transistor radio and threw it in the canal.

I've heard most of these before, scooby-doo? because they were a cartoon version of 'ghost busters'?

of the still buying Lucky Charms just to see if my jw will eat them class. (he does, often before kids get a chance!) Time to try out Boo-Berry or Count Chocula

My Mother was a witness and my Father was not.

I was not allowed to make friends with any kids at school, and very few with kids at the hall, I had to stay home and cook, clean, do laundry and vacuum the house 3x a week. To this day, it has been hard for me to learn how to make friends.

No sports, school clubs. Although I was allowed to go to school dances and my freshman prom with a worldly boy, that was weird and confusing..

No dating until my parents thought I was old enough to marry, which is hysterical because I started dating a brother at 14 and then married him at 16.

After I married at 16, my husband would not allow me to watch Saturday Night Live, soap operas, Dallas or Dynasty. I also could not go to town unless all the dishes were washed, although I was still going to high school and working part time as a janitor and farm hand.

P.S. I could not watch movies like I am watching now "Haunted Honeymoon". In fact never saw my first R rated movie til I was almost 30 years old and I sneaked watched it.

Geez Okie nothing like having your husband not allowing you to do something. I'd tell him well "I'm not allowing myself to have sex with you tonight honey"

As a young girl I couldn't wear pants with zippers in the front. I wore a lot of those ugly stretchy pants and got laughed a lot. Well, the reasoning was that you wouldn't want to look like a boy.

I guess though it is ok to look like a dork.

I wasn't allowed to eat lucky charms, boo berry or count chocola cereal

Couldn't wear high heel with jeans, sluts do that.

Couldn't have double pierced ears, sluts do that ( that one was hard to explain when the PO's wife had three holes in one ear)

Couldn't wear mini skirts

Couldn't ride in a car with a boy alone. ( you know what happens at stop lights don't you?)

But I did go to prom and a school dance or two and had a boyfriend at 14 ( that was ok though because he was the son of an elder. horn dog asked me to sleep with him on a weekly basis)

Now I don't allow my daughter to chew bubblegum chewing tobacco or candy cigarettes but that is because I don't think encouraging the use of tobacco like products is smart.

I think that we had a lot of the above mentioned but the absolute worst for me was the sitting during the National Anthem. I hated it! Everyone staring assuming I was un-American, which I certainly was not.

I could listen to the radiio but could not buy music or celeb magazines as that was "idolatry".
Absolutely no R movies and PG was suspect also.
Could not associate with "weak ones" at the hall.
No extra-curricular activities except working in the library and the superintendent's office - because those were "jobs".
I could not go on school field trips.
I was not allowed to go in FS with who I chose. Either the FS conductor assigned groups or my mom chose for me. I prayed to be in a group that stopped for a break at 11 and then did return visits.

I was also banned from watching Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles because they were too violent.

Oh hell no, they took away the Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles? That's just wrong.

There were two things my mother would not let me have. 'Water', because if it would rot your shoes just think what it would do to your stomach! And, 'Salt' because if it would rust out your car, just think what that would also do to your stomach!

Worse yet...What Kind of Things Did I Ban From MY Children?

They were young in the late 80's... NONE of the following...

Scooby-Do, Smurfs, Troll dolls, unicorns, anything "lucky"... school mate sleepovers, skirts above the knees, any activity that interfered with Saturday mornings..., reading novels that were their own choice, only "easy listening music' on the radio...Magic 101", no PG-13 movies, just PG, NO DATING.

School activities, sports, drama, debate, school dances and proms, musical intruments except piano lessons from a witness at home, of course no flag salute and national anthem,

Though I was doing my best at the time... they think their childhood was pretty bad. One is an active Witness and two are not. No one is at all concerned about those things now...especially me.
