Should a person be subjected to obscenities just because they hold an unpopular view? The above quotes were applied to me in the last couple days.
Apparently no one here thinks this kind of behavior is extreme.
I'm not asking these individuals to be thrown off. In spite of their arrogance and crude behavior they have important things to communicate. At the same time does that excuse them for such behavior?
If no one repudiates this kind of behavior then this is indeed a corrupt community.
Simon shouldn't have to enforce decency. It should be self enforced.
It becomes more and more obvious that these individuals don't care any more about ordinary decency than the organization they left.

Actually the same thing happened me a few months ago, it was over should gays get married. I don’t agree despite I am bicurious. But everybody said hat I have an inferiority complex, i.e. that I don’t have we will power to be gay and that my opinion doesn’t count. Eventually my account was banned for don’t backing down with a fight between me, a new forum member and established members. (kind of like the GB)
But you are going about it the wrong way and probably get banned yourself, don’t let people get the better of you.

I understand being angy when one has been personally insulted. But, obviously, this is an issue between you and a couple of other individuals on the board.
The vast majority on this board would never even think of calling someone a vulgar name. I doubt that calling this website a "cesspool" is a rational response to a quarrel that you have with a couple of individuals.
I don't excuse anybody on this site calling someone else a vulgar name. But, at the same time, I don't think that it is fair to broad-brush this website as a "cesspool" due to the insults from a couple of individuals. As I recall, I sort of teased you a little bit in that thread too, and if that was offensive to you, I truly apologize.
I'm not taking any sides here, I'm just sticking up for the reputations of the hundreds of good and decent people on this website.

I don't mind a jab or two. And I can see an occasional emotional reaction that generates an expletive or two. But when called on it they should apologize.
I didn't mind AlanF's remark that much. I know him. But I expected that he would have learned from his experience and just abandoned the thread. But there he was again without apology.
And then two more posters maliciously jumped in to do the same thing. What for? To be as obnoxious as they could. Wow. That's a real encouragement for people to share their opinions on this board!!!!

Were you more adroit with your reading, you might have noticed that I did not call you a name at all. I expressed my surprise at AlanF's restraint in calling you a name. However, I am on record as enjoying name-calling, and generally find AlanF's appraisals fitting. Perhaps my fear of coming off as "syrupy" in my defense shall be my excuse.
Unfortunately, I incorrectly used your own evaluation of AlanF's comments in my own response, which were not his claim. My surprise, then, should have been more emphatically stated.
Congratulations on your agility of mind, in coming to your topic conclusion, and amazement at AlanF's word choices, in only five years and more than 1300 posts.
