    Lady Liberty,

No, I'm quite sure it isn't wrong. I suspected this for years, but now I'm sure of it.

I'm one of 5 people from 3 different families who were thrown out of our small congregation for saying that Jehovah really does communicate with us personally. He guides our thoughts with holy spirit, in other words, and we perceive certain thoughts as coming from Him. We speak of this as "hearing" Jehovah.

Your Thread on birthday celebration caught my eye because one of the first things Jehovah taught us when we were learning to "hear" him was that it's OK with Him if we celebrate birthdays. And when the Society forbids it, they deserve a scathing rebuke from Jesus for teaching commands of men as doctrine.

I vote NO to the question at hand!

Can you imagine how guilty I felt. After learning that scripture says NOTHING about NOT celebrating birthdays after making my children abide by MY wishes ----NO BIRTHDAYS!!!!!!
So my son died at 46------my daughter died at 42------- NOW I KNOW that was a bunch off bull. Yet because I followed MAN I deprived two wonderful kids of a happy celebration.

    Shame on me

They are not wrong as long as you promise not to chop someone's head off during the celebration. Other than that, I don't know of any scriptural warning.

To use the mindset of the JW"S when they use the deaths of 2 individuals as the basis for not celebrating birthdays, then one should not drive, fly or use machinery either. Just because people die in accidents doesn't seem to stop anyone from driving or flying now does it.

Also we are free according to the Apostle Paul who says at Col 2:16 "Therefore let no man judge you in eating and drinking or in respect of a festival or of and observance of the new moon or of a sabbath."

I always kind of thought this was stupid too!

Even the two examples they site they are wrong about! First pharaohs birthday was the vernal equinox! It didn't matter when the MANS birthday was when he became pharaoh his birthday automatically became the vernal equinox! So they have a big party on "his birthday" (which wasn't the day he was born) and he kills a criminal. Who cares the man was a criminal! Back then they killed people all the time! Look at the mosaic law you could get killed for looking at someone funny! So do they say "The Jews killed people for crap all the time so maybe we should hate Jews?" I mean that's just STUPID! So WTF does that speak to about birthdays?

The other is Herod and John the baptist and that is CLEARLY BS as well! Herod got his little hottie niece or step daughter to dance for him (HIS birthday present) and she was so hot he said "what can I give you" (I'll bet he was HOPING she would say "a hot beef injection!) Instead she asked him to whack some wild wilderness man's head off (city girls are strange!) The argument I always heard was this was showing negativity towards birthday PRESENTS... UM WTF herod's present was pretty sweet! The Girl's present was the bad one and um FYI it WASN'T her birthday!

The WT twist EVERYTHING and the reason is

    1. Control all aspects of life
    2. Make people feel different. Cultivate an US vs THEM mentality.

    Classic cult techniques!

All the WTS has to do is quote Matthew 24:45-47 and then say anything they want........and they do. It's amazing that Paul did not direct the Bereans attention to that scripture so they did not have to waste all their time checking out Paul's statements (Acts 17:10,11).
