Do you rather an automatic or manual transmission?

My first cars were all "manual" and they were small cars, cheap on gas.

Then later on in life, I spoiled myself and bought automatic cars.

Last week, I tried a manual Yaris, and wasn't that comfortable with the manual transmission. Maybe it's the fact that I didn't drive a manual car in 6 years.

Just wondering if anyone here after driving automatic transmission cars since many years, if you would come back to manual..

Both of our Hondas are manual transmissions -- I like the control a manual gives me in bad weather (downshifting slows the car down without skidding), which I've been assured is a Yankee thing. But I was raised by two Yankees and married a guy who SHOULD be a Yankee (he likes a manual transmission too), so there it is.

Every once in a while, when I'm going from first gear to second gear to first gear to stop during rush hour traffic, or when I'm trying to juggle a Grande Toffee Nut Latte from Starbucks while driving, I think longingly of an automatic transmission, but the moment passes.

My first car was a stick and I loved driving it. It felt like a race car. I've been driving an automatic since but I REALLY miss driving manually. I think it's alot funer. I keep saying if I get a different vehicle eventually it will be a stick.

I love driving a manual - I am even pondering the idea of getting another vehicle with manual.

    I love my Honda's!

Honestly, if manuals were available in more cars, (I drive an '06 Impala SS, no manual option), I would get one.

It may also be a Texas thing, Cruizanart...at least for those of us who can still (and do) shift for ourselves.

I for one am truly disgusted by these "paddle shifter" automatics being put into the high dollar Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserait, etc...

In my day, real airplanes were flown with a control stick (and had the small wheel on the tail end), real cars had a gear shift between the seats and a clutch pedal under your left foot, and real women knew the difference between cheap panty-hose and actual proper distinguished french underwear.

But, of course, we are all getting older now...

I'm with you whyami, I love my Honda manual, you gotta work the revs to get the best out of it but the shift is soooo slick it's a joy to drive

Of the 5 cars I've owned since I started driving 3 were manual.

It is getting harder to find some cars in a manual transmission. When my 2000 Nissan Altima (Manual Trans.) was totaled earlier this year my friend the car dealer had a heluva time finding a 2002-2004 honda civic that was manual. 95% of the civics that were at the auctions were automatics. He finally did get one for me and I love it.

Not only does a manual trans offer more control in inclement weather it can also improve your gas mileage by 5% if you drive it correctly (Thats big when you commute from PA to NY everyday.) Anyway the only time i miss an automatic is when I'm stop and go on the cross bronx EVERYDAY!!

I have always driven manual cars, though I did try my brother's automatic some years ago, but wasn't tempted to buy one.
