I hope you can find a decent place not too far from work. Although prices are much higher there, I do understand what you mean by how expensive it is to live on your own. New Jersey USA is high as the sky, too.
Moving House - why so darned expensive!

Sad Emo - lucky you never having rented - how did you manage that?
I was so determined to leave home as soon as I could that I started saving every penny and worked every hour I could get - up to 80 hours a week. I didn't miss out on social life as I didn't have one to start with other than that, I guess I was fortunate in getting onto the property ladder only about a year before prices virtually doubled overnight.
Does your laptop have wi-fi? you might find someone elses internet to piggyback on!

Oh no, you're splitting! I'm so sorry.... and you've got to cash out for it, man that sucks. Ummm... my budgeting tip: stop buying crap. Over a five year period my credit card debt grew to $20K, just with stupid stuff I thought I needed. Live within your means.
I don't get the letting fee; in Oz the landlord pays that.

Crumpet, there are some pretty cheap Broadband deals around at the moment, as cheap as £8.99 per month. When you move, check out this website, it gives details of all the packages available:
http://www.compare-uk-broadband.com/
I'm not one for going out a lot myself, around once or twice a week to the local, or the occasional meal, is enough for me. I would hate to be without the internet though, especially when Trev has to work away, which he occasionally does. I'd probably die of boredom.

if you can stretch to it, ntl do a package for about 30 quid a month which will give you telly channels phone and 1 meg broadband,
and if you fancy a break to get away dossing here would only cost you your fare.

In the UK both the landlord and tenant pay it. The landlord pays a charge equivalent to the first months rent plus vat to cover marketing costs, and the tenant pays a fee (£125ish) to pay for credit history/background checks. In addition to this most letting agencies charge an extra 15% per month to manage the property. Private landlords don't have to pay this and so their rents are a lot less, but with modern legislation you still get protected as a tenant.

Gasp - shock - you aren;t suggesting theft! LOL! hehe!
The NTL package isn't bad actually - I'll see. There are benefits to not having the internet at home and not too many channels - it will force me to go out more, which is what Mr C wanted all along and one of the reasons we are splitting! that £8.99 one sounds ludicrously cheap - but wonder if it covers the phone connection etc... Will look into that also when the time comes.
Nelly- thanks for the invite hon! And what a shame you cant get up to the aposta curry! We'll miss you!
Sass I don't buy crap - money is already ridiculously tight - I still haven;t finished getting straight from going to Weston for the aposta bbq and that was well cheap. I don't shop at all - I will treat myself to a monthly paperback from ebay but thats the biggest luxury I can afford now. So it's going to be even worse moving out!

I don't know too much about renting but can you claim housing benefit? I know a pioneer used to do that in our congregation and did alright. Also can you get with any Housing Association? Some flats are reserved for key workers, which you may be, but in some places there are too many flats for the uptake and they have to bend the requirements.
I hope you sort it out though

Gilberto - I can't claim any housing benefit as I work full time. Maybe I should just get meself preggers and wait for a tower hamlets flat! LOL!
