WTS' use of "Presumptuousness." Calling the kettle black...

In putting some final touches on the letter to my mother (yes the one I've been preparing for about six months,) I came across this article from a 1984 Watchtower.

    Beware

    of Presumptuousness!

WHO does not want to avoid making mistakes? They can be quite embarrassing, often costly and so regrettable! Do we want to avoid distressing errors? Then we must guard against a trait that easily leads to them. We must beware of presumptuousness!

What is presumptuousness? It is "assuming a prerogative, privilege, or permission without warrant"; "overstepping due bounds"; "readiness to presume in conduct or thought." Indeed, presumptuousness makes a person proceed according to his own ideas and makes him resist counsel or correction.

But who are the presumptuous ones? Are they only the obviously wicked? Who really needs to beware of presumptuousness?

    Presumptuous

    Persecutors

Foremost among mankind’s presumptuous ones are the persecutors of God’s people. They insist that they, rather than Jehovah, should be obeyed. Could any act of presumption exceed that?

That JWs (myself formerly included) cannot read this and perceive how it indicts the Watchtower Society itself is the sort of thing that makes me tremble in awe.

Great find! Is this letter something you can share with us?

    M.J.,

I actually posted it on this forum a few months ago, but since then there've been a number of amendments. I'm working on them right now--and will throw the whole thing into this thread when complete.

I can think of a few elders who ought to take a good look at that article. Some of them seem to make the rules up as they go along, without ant scriptural backing whatsoever.

One of the Wacktower's favorite guilt-tripping, accusatory control-words.

This was right around the time of the original Bethel ousting of Franz and his cohorts. That was quite a vocal group of ex-JW's who stirred things up. I arrived at the tail end of that party-1988- but I still managed to do my share in exposing the Watchtower fraud. They were feeling a lot of heat back at Bethel in1984 and it hasn't let up since, not with Danny Haszard blazing away at every opportunity!

    I think just one mother.

The WT isn't presumptuous they say they are in eager expectation and anxious and hoping for things to happen.

There was a two part study article a while back (late 90's early 00's???) about Presumptuousness. I don't know why I remember it so much but it allways seemed funny that they didn't like people following the path their organization has set over the past 100+ years.
