Are those claiming to be annointed, nutters?

KW13, I don't think you get the picture.

Everyone was anointed pretty much so in the WTS up until the 1930's. Are you suggesting that everyone was a "nutter" then more than today. Many people in other religions believe that when they die they are to heaven to be with Jesus...are they all "nutters"?

You are taking examples of people who are old now and perhaps have idiosyncracies associated with being old and ailing. Was anybody alive when there were several anointed in good health and fairly young in their congregation? I was and can tell you that the percentage of "nutters" in the anointed was no higher than that of the "great crowd."

I don't mix it up with anything, i see people who get a 'feeling' or something believe that they will be going to heaven, and co-ruling with Jesus.

To take that on, to claim that i think it needs to be more than a feeling, you'd wonder about it unless you thought a lot of yourself and loved power and people looking up to you, slightly eccentric/odd/weird/different (insane was the wrong word as was nutters i accept) and if its not of those, its confused and mislead. The average JW's i know, part of the great crowd tended to be very strange and did some strange things. Either that or they were on power trips, mislead or confused e.t.c

    *ahem*

Remember, out here in big, old Christendom, ANYONE who accepts the Holy Spirit's help is annointed. I count myself as one of the annointed. Dare I ask, do you think I am nutters?

NOW, in the society, to ADMIT to the anointing of the Holy Spirit comes with a whole bunch of IMPLICATIONS. Case in point, Little Toe. You might say he was a little nutters to CONFESS to it.

No, i dont jgnat because you don't stand to personally gain for it or get any 'power' out of it, its the annointed in ORG that stand to benefit, people almost bow to them and give them so much respect, they are everything.

For Blondie and jgnat: I don't think Karl is insinuating that anyone who claims to be going to heaven is a "nutter". I think Karl knows and believes that non-Witnesses can and do claim to have the hope of going to heaven when they die. If I'm reading his initial question right, I think he's asking about those within the Organization who might suddenly claim that they're of the annointed, even though they're uh, less than stellar Christians .

Some of the ones that I've known who claim to be "annointed" are total whack jobs----one is an alcoholic who physically abused her children and refused to go to her daughter's wedding because she didn't marry a boy from Bethel. Another one pretends to have more mental problems than what she really has, just to get attention. When that wasn't working, she suddenly claimed to be of the annointed class, IMO, because it got her some much needed attention. Another one decided to go on Disability (he was a lazy bastard if ever I saw one and didn't want to work), would try preaching at cops when they pulled him over for speeding, and beat his wife black and blue. Even though he couldn't work, it was amazing at all the other things he could do. When the insurance company caught him doing work while collecting Disability, he tried preaching to the court saying that, as one of Christ's brothers, they should think carefully about prosecuting him.

Were any of these people really "annointed" or were they, as Karl asked "nutters"? In my opinion, they were all nutters to the tenth degree.

On the flip side of the coin, I also know many Christians who are wonderful people and who have a 'heavenly hope'. Best one I can think of offhand is Grace (Mouthy). She is one of the most wonderful, kind, generous and decent people I've ever had the priviledge of meeting and if anyone's going to heaven, it's definitely people like her.

I think you have to be careful about categorising a whole group as nutters. I think there are some very devout and honest people who believe they are of the annointed.

On the other hand, I think the 'heavenly hope' does appeal to the attention seekers, people susceptible to 'spiritual' experiences, and the mentally ill in addition to the genuine people. It must be a bit of a pisser if you are honest hearted and all the local loonies keep claiming they are your 'brother'.

We had two who claimed to be annointed in our hall. One was an "elder' who couldn't get his wife to go to a meeting if her life depended on it. And the other was a woman going through menopause which, at the time confused her as to being annointed.

As years passed, neither of them partook anymore. Nutters? You decide

A couple of the older ones I knew, honestly were no dfferent than anyone else. One of the ladies was very nice, and smart as well. The problem seems to be with the younger "anointed" if you ask me. My experience there always was ones who were eccentric, lazy, (wouldn't work), and even unfriendly. This seems to make sense, as the older ones who claimed to be of the anointed really only believed what every other Christian believed at the time -that they would go to heaven, no big deal. For any younger jw to claim this, after being indoctrinated, (learning of a paradise earth and what not), it would take a nutter to believe they were somehow of that class, and yet still believe jwism.

I think some of them may be nutters, but many, maybe even most of them, especially the older ones, are very sincere in their belief.

They have been taught that a certain thing is possible. They are further taught that the sole criterion for their inclusion in this elite group is "the testimony of their spirit," which I would equate with their imagination. There are no objective or demonstrable criteria: No healing, talking in tongues, walking on water, feeding multitudes, etc.

It is all based on "how strongly do you believe in your Heavenly Father and His Son, sent as a ransom for your sins? How much do you want to be with him?"

Life can be pretty crappy sometimes, and a person can easily find themselves latching onto anything that gives them a reason to continue from day to day. It's comforting to know that God has chosen you. It is a psychic painkiller extraordinaire.
