How typical of the wts to take the best years of a person's life, then cast them aside when they are old and tired.

Do you have any more information? The sketchy details make this a bit like an urban legend type of thing.
For example:
- Why would they 'stand down' so many at the same time whilst scratching around for men to fill in? It wouldn't seem logical (but then, what's new with the WTS. eh?)
- Were they removed en bloc?
- Was it the result of some "judicial" matter?
