My dad always had the Book Study at the Hall. Therefore, we always cleaned the Hall after the CBS. He always led be example. He usually did the mens room, and my mom did the bathrooms. Can't get much more humble than that.

most JW's are janitors so might be done rather fast.

I cleaned both bathrooms, babyroom, kitchen, 2nd school, foyer, coatrooms, swept and mopped and dusted while he vacuumed the front of the Hall, eventually I helped with the vacuuming too.

JUST LIKE A WOMAN- sounds like he tottered around vacuuming? I could just picture you - like a tornado whirling around the Hall. That's cute!

    GILBERTO SAID:

If you just hoovered round the chairs you could do the hall in no time.

Is that what you Brits call "vacuuming"? I guess than we hoovered around w/ our Hoovers then.

When it was just a few of us younger bro we would blast springsteen over the sound system while we cleaned! The old biddies bitched when they found out but we had a cool young elder on our side and he said if they didn't like it they could show up and help us clean! LOL we got to keep the music!

Your original question was funny if the witnesses still did it or if they hired cleaners... Chances are if they hired cleaners the witnesses would STILL do it then eh! Cleaning is all those home schooled illiterate Fundy dubs are good for!

when i went to a new hall the group that i took was well surprised when i got a hoover, duster, window cleaning stuff etc and actually did some cleaning along with them...seemingly this was quite a novel approach for an elder to take.

Ian, you're one of the very few. I cannot ever remember seeing an elder do his part in my old KH. No kidding. It was usually the women and children.

It's feast or famine. One time it was my dad and my friend alone. They complained to an elder so people got chewed out, and thankfully I wasn't in their bookstudy.

Otherwise people are pretty indifferent to the Saturday cleaning. People are coming home from a morning of rejection; how suprised should people be that they don't leap up right away to go do some more cleaning? Especially when the day is beautiful and stuff needs to get done?

The KHs I attended had maybe one couple that had a cleaning business. They made good money. I don't find anything demeaning about cleaning. I had a housecleaning business for several years and made more money than I ever did in banking or office work. I don't find any dishonor in the janitor or cleaning business.

The books studies rotated cleaning duties weekly about every 6th week. Some brothers arranged for it on Friday night and then we all went out for pizza. Most cases, the book study conductor was there, pushing a vacuum and cleaning the brother's restroom. If 4 to 5 people showed up, things went fast. I figured I used the building, it made sense to help to keep it clean.
