Is the "MS" just another hoop?

I have not been a member of the "Theocrappic Misery Drool" for the last eleven years.

Recently I was approached by a toddler and asked "why not?" because of course it is for training us in public speaking.

I said it's not compulsory is it? No, but you need the guidance and teaching to put your points across effectively.

I said - But my job involves standing up in front of literally hundreds of people on a regular basis and delivering policy and instruction. I've done it for 23 years, and I know that people benefit from my professional presentations.

THEN THE REAL PROBLEM CAME OUT OF THE CLOSET!

I got a lecture on how in the Borg, we have to be humble. Even tho my job has involved this for many years, we have to think less of ourselves and accept counsel. And, of course, I can never EVER, be a ministerial servant since I am not a member of the Misery School..

So to get on in the Borg you jump through this hoop, even if you don't need to. It is just to prove you toe the line, and teach you how to use the cult vocabulary and witless speak. ( I forget the name for the cult use of words - help Lady Lee)

Well I guess he told you didn't he?

HUMBLE THYSELF HAMSTERBAIT UNDER THE MIGHTY HAND OF THE ORGANIZATION!!

What a bunch of stupidity! Yeah. You'll never get to be a MS if you don't follow the rules.

Why can't the other person think less of themselves and skip the counsel?

Because they want you in that position where they can GIVE you counsel. Doesn't matter if you're the best speaker on the earth; it's about power in their little pea brains. You fall in line w/everyone else and take your lickins.

How can you stand to go to the meetings after finding out about the NGo's and other things talked about here at JWD? I know if I was going I would join the MS might as well they at least think higher of you. By not you are putting a bulls eye on your back.

When I was on the school I used it as an opportunity to "counsel" (with tact) the elders and those idiots in the congregation who thought they were more righteous than anyone else. The #2 talk allowed me to shape the introductions and closings of the talk. The #4 talks were a free for all. I only got one "work" while I was on the school from my "fleshly" brother who was the school overseer. It was my last talk on the school before I was appointed an MS. The introduction and closing of that talk was based on Wizard of Oz characters (Dorthy,Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion). Ooops. I actually had quite a few in the congregation applaude even though you weren't suppose to because it wasn't my first talk.

I became inactive...came back at a different congregation and gave a #2 talk to make another "point".Left that congregation after being cheated by a "brother" I worked for. I came back to my "home" congregation and gave one last #2 ( now it's just read the scriptures no introductions or closing remarks), but still managed to make a "point". The scriptures I got to read were Job 7:1-21 it was perfect for my situation at the time, because I got to emphasize the scriptures I wanted to stand out in everyone's minds.

Is it another hoop? Sure it is, but it can be used to your advantage. Becoming an MS is just an ego trip for most and an awakening to those who think it will aid them to "change" the cold-hearted elders dealings with the lowly ones within the congregation. It ain't going to happen. It took me 5 years as an MS to realize that.

I found the TMS to be quite a misnomer. As a long time member of such, I found it to be something that refines public speaking skills (i.e. giving talks) but, it did nothing for helping me to converse at the doors.

I got really good at speaking in front of a captive audience, but when I had to actually interact with a person at the doors; where the discussion jumps around in dynamic fashion; I just couldn't do it.

For a brother; speaking to a silent audience from a lecturn does nothing in the way of preparing him to go toe to toe with someone at a door who is firing off questions left and right; and where the dialogue can meander from topic to topic. At least, this was my experience.

Oh, by the way hamsterbait - the answer to your question is yes; it is another hoop. Consider yourself a literal hamster running on it's little hamster wheel.

I think the tms is a weapon the wts use to put sisters in their place. I mean, an 8 year - old kid can stand up on his own in front of the congregation and read the bible to them, but sisters who have been jws for 20,30, 40 or more years aren't allowed to do that, because it is not permitted for a woman to teach, apart from in the ministry of course.

I never really enjoyed my tms assignments, though I suppose it made me a slightly better conversationalist in some ways. I think it made some sisters more effective in the pre and post meeting gossiping sessions, though I may be being a little harsh there.+
