What are you doing aside from talking?

I put this under beliefs for I think this gets down to the core of what we each believe is right. Some feel talk is enough and others have that drive that move to right a wrong or participate in changing the world. Don't tell me one person cannot change the world. I don't want to hear that. We have had some great leaders and not so great leaders that have poushed for a cause and lived their life by it. They change the world. They see injustice and fix it. (Or make a sizeable mark on fixing it) Ghandi for instance?

I see a lot of people here. Chatting and messaging of course, because that is what this board is for. But when I see people post over and over on politics, world conditions, life, love, and what not...I often wonder, "What are they doing besides talking about it?"

So many of us here have knowledge on so many subjects. Have any of you joined a political party that supports your cause, or grabbed on to a charity? Maybe your educating others right here is your form of helping out?

I was just wondering for so many have so much to offer and also, I guess I am curious to know who just likes to vent about it all and who jumps in and joins the action outside the confides of our computer screen?

Do we have any Ghandi's amongst us?

I've not got involved in politics since leaving the org, and don't really intend to. The main thing I do away from the board is give an anti - witness, like sending advance copies of kingdumb news 37 out to the local churches before the dubs start distributing them next month. That's more likely to annoy the dubs than anything else, in fact it already has, as word has got back to them what we are doing.

I try to help those I can on the board as well.

Really? Now that is great. Kind of adds a bit of fun to the witnessing huh? great job.

I know I did a lot more for charity last year till it turned into politics and not charity. I can say that lately I have had to slow up and focus more at home. I would love to do a million things and join a million different causes. But my most important work is at home with my kids. Soon...they will be grown and I think I may pursue some of those causes more fully then.

I'm not into the political stuff either. But I can anti-witness...because that's what I know. I have my "example of Cult Propaganda" stickers in my purse. I have no proplem telling everyone I know that is interested.......what I know about JW's. .....And I have an ongoing bible study with a witness that doesn't know I'm an ex-jw. My hope is that I'm opening the minds of my fellow sister's one at a time.

I am an extremely active activist against crimes done to the children living in JW households, or may be.. Many times, talking IS part of the activism. Yet, is only a small part.

One must DO more than words can, if able.

Skally I did not anyone comment. I thought this was a dead thread. But there is hope! Ressurection. Actually wanted to say that after a small ordeal yesterday that just gives me that creepy feeling as do 'crimes against children' I really have to stand up and say bravo!

Lisa- I like anti- witnessing. I make sure I do it at work. It can be fun.

Ade and Finally free- I like that you do charity work. Don't you just feel a bit better? I know I liked it after sitting on my rump and waiting for jehovah to fix things. I cannot believe how selfish they are. (jw's)

I don't think becoming an ex-JW requires a person to get politically active. I have found how few non-JWs are involved in politics even not voting...stats bear that out. Some are quite good about donating to United Way but not working necessarily in a food bank or a homeless shelter or providing safe transportation to women.

I tutor in ESL; participate in my union; vote; donate to various charities; participate in 3 organizations fighting sexual abuse in religious organizations; lobby for changes in laws. But that's me.

Sometimes what people are doing is raising children to be productive and helpful members of society...
