How accountable is the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses?

My husband and I were discussing this very point a couple of nights ago. Here in Texas, a professional ball player needed a kidney transplant. His father donated one of his to his son,the ball player, and both are recovering nicely. However, if they had both been Witnesses some years ago, when the WTS said that taking a transplant was not allowed because it was canibalism, the father would have had to watch his son sicken and possibly die if they were faithful Witnesses. Then, a few years after the death, the father would have to read that the WTS changed its policy regarding transplants to a concious matter. How would the father feel? Glad that he "waited on Jehovah" and his son died? Or would he be rightly angry that the WTS completely changed positions due to "NEW LIGHT?"

Who is accountable if they are not? They say they are the ONLY channel God is using. Then JR Brown, their spokesman, says that no one would say that the WTS has any direct line to God. Who is lying here?

Accountability and responsibility are different issues. They aren't accountable but they are responsible. They're responsible in that they're irresponsible.

I mostly don't care about the abstract group of prophets, I care about the individual adult Jehovah's Witnesses I know. Now we're on a level where inventory can be taken, charges can be levied, and accounts billed.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. It matters not what the GB believe, or how sincere they are, or not. Any organized system of humans must have checks and balances to keep some sense of sanity and control in case of abuse of power. The very fact that the GB have no real accountability, except unto themselves, is a very dangerous formula in any setting, and for any organization.

    I agree with Gary.

The position of trust that they have mandated to themselves puts them in a very responsible position. They are all aware of the 'worshipful attitude' that the rank and file have for the headquarters and specifically the GB, and therefore, no matter how kind or nice or loving that they seem, they are part of an evil mechanism that subjugates minds and hearts to a course of life and action that oppresses free and serious thought regarding theological issues, and to make matters worse, they do not have theologians or even Bible scholars up there directing the work.

It is abundantly clear that they would rather educate a lawyer than a scholar.

Ahhh, but the GB would say they have an accounting to Jehovah and take it very seriously.

In this world we live in most everybody lies. They lie on tv, they lie on the radio, the newspaper. The president lies. Its the human way. I dont think anybody will be held accountable for lying about God. For some reason we all here had a need to listen to the lie.

You state. . . "Is it possible that even the governing body is mislead to believe that it is doing the right thing according to God's will . . ." This is confusing to me . How can the governing body mislead itself ? Are you saying they don't understand the word of God ? ( God's will )
