So what did you have for dinner?
Whatever it is, I will use a can opener , a packet sauce and a microwave to prepare it. Does that tell you anything?

lolol, i thought it was going to be a cold day but it was too hot for stew so we settled for chicken kievs salad and new potatos instead.
when i do liver i always soak it in milk for a while before cooking, i've no idea what that does if anything but my nan always used to do it. the cats get a liver shake when i drain it.

I just had to go and find out why you do the liver in milk thing! Apparently it softens it and mellows the flavour - although this site says it isn't needed these days because liver doesn't taste as strong as it used to:

that is so hilariously revolting!
anyone heard of biscuits and gravy? It was on the breakfast buffet at some place in Arizona - what it actually turned out to be was scones (biscuits) and thickened pig fat (gravy) apparently you put the scones into a bowl, pour over the pigs swill and mush it all up together, lovely jubbly - I bet the cats would eat it too!
There are some nice recipes around such as shepard's pie, but overall English cuisine has been neglected there are virtually no restaurants serving it, but there are plenty of ethnic ones, Chinese,Indian, Italian etc
All I know is, that the fish n chips are the bomb!!!...and it dont matter what time of the day I eat em.....dinner, tea, or lunch....
I did notice when I was back home this year, curry is a big thing there...It does not tickle my fancy, but I could live on crisp sandwiches for ever..
I loved the Briitish cooking show called "Two Fat Ladies". And that's what it was, two fat ladies cooking with lard.
Brits have the BEST frozen dinners....I so much wish I could find here the kinds of Indian microwaveable meals that I could easily get at Tesco or Asda or Sainsbury's. I have thought of maybe picking some up before flying to the US, but I'm sure they would become totally defrosted in the 11 hour or so flight back.
Spotted Dick and Custard
haha! great thread.
I just got back from the U.S. and I loved eating in the USA.
When I was in New York, I got in the habit of buying 4 bananas from a street seller for a dollar for lunch every day. Wow - what a great lunch. Seriously that's just what I needed. I went in Subway and ordered 4 subs, and couldn't eat them all. Whereupon the manager proudly told me they are the same worldwide. (They are not - we eat metric sizes here - they cost twice as much and are half as small here)!!
I wasn't disappointed when I had my first steak. American steaks are everything they are made out to be. I had steak for dinner every single night of my last week in the U.S. The steaks there are more tender, sweeter, and cheaper. I went in Safeway on my last day and bought two bottles of A1 sauce.
Some people I met took me to eat at IHOP each morning. It's hard to explain this but the English just don't do pancackes for breakfast, in fact hardly ever. I tried it. I ate it. But no. Come to England and have a full English breakfast and then you will know what I mean.
I came home and the first thing I did was eat a full English breakfast, but for dinner... I need to come back to John's Grill in downtown San Francisco.
