Why are elders so serious?

All that they do, they seem so stiff and serious. Often I will see elders still dressed in a suit hours before or after a meeting. I'll see other elders cars parked in front of an elders home, and they are in a meeting discussing something serious.

Can't these guys relax a bit and get a life out of the Borg?

What you notice, is the fact that the borg is having so much trouble holding on to folks that the elders

are that busy trying to help them. People aren't donating, studying, preaching, attending 5 wkly mtgs.

Also, to become an elder, they make you take everything so serious. After your appointment, you have

decided that there is nothing out there to have a life with, only the New System. My problem as an elder

was that I loved my job, I felt that an education is a wonderful thing to have. I did my elder stuff, it took a

bunch of time from me, but I did other stuff. That allowed me to grow away from the organization. I was

able to question things where others just accepted it, because it came from the FDS.

IMO, to stay an elder means to live completely as an elder.

They have been told by the GB that they responsible for the lives of the flock and having shouldered such a responsibility they are anxious about the issue.

However they are just untrained laymen and as such can not really function as spiritual leaders despite some cursory training they receive. For that you need persons that are more trained and professional. In the WTS everything is done so superficially and inefficiently.

Because they are Jehovah's 'Happy' People!!! .........or maybe because they have vinegar on their cornflakes in the morning, just to give them that cheerful expression?

Why are elders so serious? Most are simply power tripping! ...Looking for some victims to take advantage of.

I remember having a good MS friend. I used to go help him clean at the bank, and then we had a few beers over at his house. We were good buddies.

I knew he was going to be an elder soon, so I told him, "I hope we will remain good friends when you become and elder". Probably he thought that I was joking, but I was serious.

Well, I said that because I knew how serious they become and how they change when they become elders.

The moment he became an elder, everything changed. His circle of friends changed, and I was out...

This is encouraged by the CO on his visits. Not to necessarily shut you out, but to get to know all
the other elders, spend time with them, and limit social time with those who are not making spiritual
    progress, other than shepherding them.

Gee, the CO gives bad instructions.

Does this mean that the weaker ones have to be friends with other weak ones.

Wouldn't a weak brother benefit from a spiritually strong friend?
