Well, it had to happen one day - only Claire and I thought we'd be somewhat older and Karl would have finished his university course. Karl telephoned earlier this week to let us know we're to become grandparents! As Karl is only 21 and has just started university I felt like reading the riot act - but what's the point! It's support he and his girlfriend need and they do love each other!

Claire and I aren't really surprised because we knew that they were living together before travelling down to Brighton, where they share a room in a house with three friends and where the university is situated.

Karl fully intends to complete his university course, which we're extremely pleased about.

Thought I'd share the news with people we care about - you lot!

Congratulations Ian and Claire (I think)!.

I will tell Linda as soon as she gets home - she's having a "retail therapy" session in Birmingham with Marion today, I expect I'll get a call to go and pick them up off the train soon.

Don't worry mate, when you get used to the idea, you'll both love it.

    Congrats

The Oak Ridge Boys have a song they sing entitled "Thank God for Kids"

We saw them here during the fair and they changed it a little bit considering the age of the audience.

Thank God for Grand Kids too.

If it weren't for kids have you ever thought
There wouldn't be no Santa Claus
Or look what the stork just brought
    Thank God for kids.

And we'd all live in a quiet house
With-out Big Bird or Mickey Mouse
And Kool Aid on the couch
    Thank God for kids.

Thank God for kids, there's magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to heaven is a child.

When you get down on your knees tonight
To thank the Lord for His guiding light
And pray they turn out rignt
    Thank God for kids.

Daddy, how does this thing fly?
And a hundred other wheres and whys
You really don't know but you try
    Thank God for kids.

When you look down in those trusting eyes
That look to you, you realize
    There's a love that you can't buy
    Thank God for kids...

Well, well, well! I guess congratulations are in store for both the new grandparents and parents to be.

I know they sound kind of young to have children, and it certainly will be hard to juggle school and parenting, but knowing the upbringing he's had and having you and Claire as parents, Karl will do just fine.

    take care

    love Denise
