Yes we're all getting older. Too many of us have been exposed to loud sounds. Airplanes over head, motorcycles, loud music blasting our ears from loudspeakers, cars, trucks, TVs, a wide assortment oif portable media devices, telephones, I could go on and on.

    Prolonged loud noise damages hearing.

The news this morning had an item on a free hearing test online. It's very simple and easy. And let's you know if you should see an expert about getting a professional test.

And I will have to see about getting a hearing test now.

The links to find professional testing are for southern Ontario only (not even where I am in Ontario) but I am sure I can find one here on my own.

I worked in the hearing aid industry for over 7 years, was state licensed as a hearing aid dispenser, and knew the ins and outs of hearing aids for my company and several others. Over 70 different types of hearing aids with multiple styles. A hearing test should be something you do every year especially after the age of 40. Many people use their friends and families as their hearing aids, they get them to speak louder or even holler at them. As you age, you ability to withstand loud sounds becomes weaker (that is it hurts you earlier) and you begin to miss the primoridal sounds of life. You may notice that you understand conversations a little differently than others, you miss words or letters in the sound of words and have trouble understanding young ones etc. Yes we should all get hearing tests time to time.

I've always had a problem hearing conversations, particularly in group situations. My ex often got irritated with me because I was always asking her to repeat herself. I always thought I just had a poor attention span. My ex thought my hearing was selective. I tried the online test and could not hear the 500 and 8000 HZ tones at all.

Maybe it's time to get checked.

Thank you Lady Lee for posting this. I hear perfectly well on the left side. However, due to an accident a few years ago I have a slight hearing problem on the right side. I wondered how bad it was and that test gave me a pretty good idea. I couldn't hear the 8000 HZ tones on the right side.

Thank you again. Always fun to test yourself. Also, gave the test to my 3 year old. You know, because sometimes you wonder if they can really hear or not. (ha ha) He heard them all. So, I guess he just isn't listening.

Thanks for that info. When I go to my daughter's I have sucha hard time hearing any of them. It seems they are all whispering.

At home I try to find a level on the TV that is comfortable for me but won't disturb the neighbors.

And I don't care what they say about ads, they do turn them up louder.

Glad you gave it a check. I watched the video and it was quite good as it discussed our reluctance in checking our hearing. We check every other part of our body but the denial of hearing loss or problems goes very deep.

That was brilliant to test your son. They are very good at tuning in to one thing while tuning out to everything else

I was very worried for a minute. Then I remembered...this old PC doesn't have Win XP drivers for its sound card.

    Not deaf, just dumb.

Try this site to see about how high you can hear. I can only hear up to(just barely) the 16.7kHz tone.

These types of ringtones are becoming more popular with kids due to their virgin hearing. The older we get, the narrower the frequency band we can hear. Ideally, the human ear can hear from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Jourles, of the it feels damn good to sit in a car with 60 cycles @120dB+ hitting you class

I put the volume very low like they said, and I heard every frequency, but the frequency I heard the least was the 1000 hz.

Maybe my speakers can't play the 1000 hz as well.

The speakers can make a difference.

Doing this test with headsets could give a better indication if there is a problem.

Thank you LadyLee I also heard nothing at the 4000 or 8000 level. My wife is always telling me I am going deaf. I do have an appointment later this month to be tested. Thanks again this test confirmed what I already suspected.
