From Cursive's album Happy Hollow, there's a couple of songs to do with religion, not JWs directly, but some lines definitely fit. Just thought I'd share.

    Rise Up!! Rise Up!! Lyrics
    Cursive
dear preacher, thanks for making time for me today
hope you don't mind if i hide behind the curtain
it's been fifteen years since my last confession
by your good book's standards, i've sinned like a champion
but that book seems a tad bit out-dated
please forgive me, for questioning divinity
it's an ugly job, but i think i'm up for it
    i'm not saying who's right
i'm just saying there's more than one way
    to skin a religion
    there's more than one way
    to explain our existence
reverend, sir, i don't want to seem malevolent
my teenage angst is far behind me
but father, certainly it's troubling to see
all these people kneeling, instead of dealing
with the fact that we are all we have
    so, rise up! rise up!
    there's no one to worship!
but plenty of life to lose!
i'm not saying "let's burn down the church"
but do you want to hear my confession?
    it's my greatest sin..
    okay, here it is:
i wasted half my life on the thought that i'd live forever!
i wasn't raised, to seize the day, but to work and worship
'cause "he that liveth and believeth" supposedly never dies
    rise up! rise up!
    and live a full life!
'cause when it's over, it's done
    so rise up! rise up!
    dance and scream and love!
    you're not the chosen one
and i'm not the chosen one

    And one more-

    Big Bang Lyrics
    Cursive
Before we ever saw straight, we were grasping at straws
A debate was born, picket lines were drawn
There was this big bang once, now we're learning to use our thumbs
We need a purpose in life, a survival guide
We need explanations for how we arrived
There was this big bang once, now we're standing on our own two feet
There was this big bang once, we've been sharpening up our teeth
They say there was this big bang once, but the clergyman doesn't agree, oh no
There was this big bang once, but it don't jive with Adam and Eve
    Original sin, idyllic garden
Some talking snake giving apples away
What would that snake say if he could only see us today?
    Ha ha ha!
There was this big bang once, we were left here to fill in the blanks
There was this big bang once, now we're aimlessly drifting in space
We're gonna need an explanation for rational thought
And what it meant and the weight of our hearts
In a world of entropy, why can't we just simply be?
And don't feed me lies, intelligent design
There was this big bang once, why are we raptured on our knees?
    Ha!

Good lyrics sw, though I can't say I've heard the songs.

I've been listening to "Forever Changes" by Love recently. It's my boyfriends' favourite album of all time, and I watche the dvd of their preformance of it in London a few years ago, which he went to. Some of the lyrics remind me of my time in the jws, like this song:

The Daily Planet (Lee) - 3:25

In the morning we arise and
Start the day the same old way
As yesterday the day before and
All in all it's just a day like
All the rest so do your best with
Chewing gum and it is oh so
    Repetitious
Waiting on the sun This one's called Andmoreagain: And when you've given all you had
    And everything still turns out
Bad, and all your secrets are your own
Then you feel your heart beating
    Thrum-pum-pum-pum

    And I'm
    Wrapped in my armor
    But my things are material
    And I'm
    Lost in confusions
'Cause my things are material This is from You Set The Scene: This is the time and life that I am living
And I'll face each day with a smile
For the time that I've been given's such a little while
And the things that I must do consist of more than style
There are places that I am going

This is the only thing that I am sure of
And that's all that lives is gonna die
And there'll always be some people here to wonder why
And for every happy hello, there will be good-bye
There'll be time for you to put yourself on

    Everything I've seen needs rearranging
And for anyone who thinks it's strange
Then you should be the first to want to make this change
And for everyone who thinks that life is just a game
Do you like the part you're playing I'd never heard the album before I moved here, but I really love it now.

There's a Cat Stevens song that I don't remember the tittle to but it has a line that says"

"I sat upon the Devil's lake... I'll never make the same the mistake. Oh never, ever, ever ever..."

Best and latest for me is from Bob Dylans' new album Modern Times. The opening song is called Thunder On The Mountain and as soon as I heard these lines I thought "WATCHTOWER"!!!!

"Shame on your greed, Shame on your wicked schemes"

When Bob growls these lines, it's awe-inspiring. I imagine to myself that it's Gods' voice talking to the GB.....on Judgement Day.

    Losing My Religion by REM

    Life is bigger
    It's bigger than you
    And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
    The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
    I set it up

    That's me in the corner
    That's me in the spotlight
    Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
    I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

    Every whisper
    Of every waking hour I'm
    Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
    I set it up

    Consider this
    The hint of the century
    Consider this
    The slip that brought me
    To my knees failed
    What if all these fantasies
    Come flailing around
    Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
    That was just a dream

Black Velvet (by Alannah Myles) Toronto Canada

Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell
Jimmy Rogers on the victrola up high
Mama's dancing with baby on her shoulder
The Sun is setting like molasses in the sky.
The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything.
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.

    CHORUS:

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your kneesBlack velvet if you please.

Up in Memphis the music's like a heat wave
White lightning, bound to drive you wild.
Mama's baby's in the heart of every school girl
"Love me tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle
The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true.

Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.

    CHORUS:

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
    Black velvet if you please.

Every word of every song that he sang was for you.
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon,

    What could you do?
    CHORUS:

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
    Black velvet if you please.
Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
    Black velvet if you please.

    ...If you please
    If you please

(Estee) Losing my religion always made me think of my experiences with the Witnesses too. A great song. The latest album by Cheryl Crow has some great lyrics on it. Personal favorite is called Letter To God.

This is a popular song on the radio right now...It makes me think about how I feel NOW about the JW religion: It’s a little too late
    I’m a little too gone,
A little too tired of this hangin’ on
So I’m letting go while I’m still strong enough toIt’s got a little too sad
    I’m a little too blue
    It’s a little too bad
You were too good to be trueI’m big time over you baby
    It’s a little too late

No I don’t want to want to talk about what we can do about us anymore
Only time you and me wastin’ is the time it takes to walk right out that door
Yeah talk about water under the bridge,You should know by now girl that’s all this is

    (chorus)
    It’s a little too late,
    I’m a little too gone,
A little too tired of just hangin’ on
I’m letting go while I’m still strong enough to
It’s got a little too sad,
    I’m a little too blue
    It’s a little too bad
You were too good to be true
I’m big time over you baby
    It’s a little too late

    There was a time,
    This heart of mine,
Would take you back every time
don’t you knowIt’s been two packs of cigaretts
    A sleepless night
A nervous wreck, a day ago.
Now you ain’t got no business coming around
    I’m closing up shop
    Shuttin’ us down(chorus)
    It’s a little too late,
    I’m a little too gone,
A little too tired of just hangin’ on
I’m letting go while I’m still strong enough to
It’s got a little too sad,
    I’m a little too blue
    It’s a little too bad
You were too good to be true
I’m big time over you baby
    It’s a little too late
I’m big time over you baby,
    It’s a little too late

The JWs are indeed selling myths that tickle the ears of those that deep down want to believe them and then they end up wasting their lives chasing after the wind. Meanwhile the WTS makes sure that they get some nice profit out of the deceived.

There is a band out of Austin called Primm. The lead singer Ray is a former JW and writes alot about it. I met up with him when he played a show in my city and he was rather fascinating, his music, soothingly unique

    lyrics...

from the belly of a whale

    Do u feel abandoned

    Do u Feel all alone

If u died who'd cry for ya

On the heels of thoughtless soles

    A dedication for the man

Who had a plan...to save the world

    Do u feel exhausted

Do u feel its been so long

    Reminisce on past intentions

2 figure out what went wrong

    Do u lie to yourself

Or try and fly against the wind

    Are cool here by yourself

Or are you lost with out your friends

This is the dawning of a brand new day

This is the coming of a brand new age

    A dedication for the man

    Who had a plan.....

    So everybody let scream...

    Until we loose our breathe

    Fight..

    Until theres no one left

    Scratch...

    Just beyond the surface

    Until we find....

    What they call happiness because

This is the dawing of a brand new day

This is the coming of a brand new age

    A dedication for the man

Who had a plan..... to save the world
