I recently obtained the 1995 WT Library CD-ROM and have been trying to get it to work. It took a few attempts to get it to install but I keep on getting an abormal program termination when I try to use it. I figure there are configuration issues since it's so old. I'm using Windows XP and I think this CD was based on a very simple Windows program.

Any advice on what I can do to get it to work?

Looks like there are several books on it that are not on the later CD-ROM...books from the 70s and a couple from the 60s.

I'm able to find a directory that has all the files for each book or bound volume. However, they are in a program that my computer does not recognize. I imagine it's a program the WT has created. Anyone know for sure what program they used? Is there a way to open these files individually?

    Try this.

Locate in the WT directory, the startup file. It probably is named "wtlib.exe."

right click on that file look for and click on 'properties' and a properties box should open up.

Look for the "compatibility" tab. Click on that. Then check the compatibility mode box and select Windows 95. This might help.

I believe there was also a video problem with monitors using 16, 24 or 32 bit video mode. Try changing that if you can. Hope this helps.

I used to have the 95 edition. Can't recall any probs with it then.

If I could find it I would try and see if it runs on my newer software - but it is archived somewhere in the deep recesses I fear.

I tried changing the compatibility tab and it still give me the "abnormal termination" error.

Will I have to find an ancient computer system to make the CD work? I have the 2005 version but wanted to get access to those files on here which aren't on the newer CD.

Is there anything else I could try?

I know that the early Watchtower CD-ROM software was written using Visual Basic.

I think the 95 CD-ROM will only work with Windows 95 or 98se.

I don't think it will work unless you've got lots of porn on your hard drive, at least that's what one Elder told me.

    cabasilas,

Pretty sure 95WT Lib. is not compatable with XP. If you have enough hard drive you can add windows 98 or Me as a second operating system. Just a thought.

The specs call for Windows 3.1. Would Windows 98 be compatible with that?

    What's "Me"?
