Later on, the Reg. Pioneer JW who studied with me went traveling around the country. He mentioned that black JWs in the South are discourage by the Society from marrying whites. This was done in order to further the preaching work by not upsetting the Southern Whites. Since when did upsetting people become a concern for the Watchtower Society? In the late 1960s and into the 1970s, racism was still very evident in the Southern United States ... but, it was by far not the majority view of white Southerners.

We both got this line of BS in 1992 when I was engaged to a very young and very pretty black sister. Needless to say, the Watchtower's racism helped put an end to our relationship.

Black, white, yellow, red, green, as long as I don't have to put up with the "fruitbasket people".......you know, the people pictured on all the watchtower and awake magazine covers with a fruitbasket on their head, walking through a meadow with a freakin' mountain lion as a pet! lol

I think JWs should be commended for their approach to racism, it is far better than many other groups. However, there is still racism. In Australia, and particularly Queensland I know of white brothers that have a real issue with the Aboriginals.

The JWs were "told" that they had a spiritual paradise, and all was well with the race issue. It was our propaganda to believe that we were so much better off than the rest of the world. But, intellectually honest reevaluation had led me to admit that JWs were on a par with society at large, or perhaps a little behind at times. Also, reviewing the attitudes and experiences others have posted suggest that the race issue was/is not isolated. The above comment admits that as recent as 1992, an interacial marriage was aborted due to JW pressure. I do not mean to suggest that racism is always worse among the JWs, but rather, that the rest of the world was/is no worse off than the JWs.

Amazing, you could be right. It is my personal view that racism exists where people do not know intimately people of other nationalities. My daughter goes to a school in which there are many nationalities of all colours, and there is no significant racist problems. Where I work is also a mixing pot and race is never an issue.

Within the Watchtower the guidance these days is good in that it says to be impartial. However the experience of people within each congregation must vary greatly.

Of all the faults of the WTBS, i cant say that i've experienced racism in the org. I have met a couple of white brothers that were pompous or condescending, but i've met an equal amount of black brothers who've done the same. What I have always found to be offensive is the fact that the organization never fought against segregation, but opted to allow segregation within the congregation. There isnt a doubt in my mind that there was an increase in field service in black communities after the civil rights era. What i will say is that i think its kind of strange to be in a district where 90% of the witnesses are black, but they only make up 40% of the population. When i was little, i'd look at the awakes and watchtowers and wonder why our congregation didnt have whites, asians and indians. I know this may sound stupid, but until i was about 13, I thought that maybe there were more black witnesses than there were whites as a whole. That probably isnt true, but i'm pretty sure that there is a huge discrepency between the ratio of white:black as a population in the US to number of white:black in the org.

Well, here, we have none of those problems. Our congregation is more black than white, but its about 60%/40%. Most of my freinds there are black 4/5. And there is a couple there of oposite races, and they do fine.

There's just no problem with it.

Personally, I think multiracial girls are good looking. Right now, it seems like I'm in a asian-american phase. I just can't get over how hot asian-american girls are :P . But that switches every once in a while...wierd.

Something about genetics, too. Very different bloodlines are less likely to birth children with deformities, etc. Unless my facts are wrong.

It must suck when you want to play a piano - you'd need two people on the piano stool, one to play the black keys and one to play the white!
