Makes no sense to me. Could you explain?

The oldest Hittite empire hardly dates before the 16th century BC and the most recent one fell around 1170 BC, long after the traditional setting of the patriarchs and long before any likely date for the redaction of the Bible texts. But the memory of the Hittites was preserved in some Neo-Hittite city-states in Northern Syria (e.g. Karkemish or Hamath, well-known in the Bible), which are still occasionally called "Hittite" down to the Hellenistic period. Most Biblical allusions to the Hittites are literary archaisms (and anachronisms).
badboy, you're doing the WT cryptic crossword aren't you?

I HAVE TO EXPLAIN; WHEN ABRAHAM BROUGHT A PLOT OF LAND IN HEBRON TO BURY HIS WIFE(SARAH?), it mentions hittites.
THE HITTITES ARRIVED IN TURKEY 2100BC.
NOW ABRAHAM BROUGHT THE LAND UNDER HITTITE LAW, INFERRING HITTITE CONTROL.
HOWEVER HITTITE MAY BE SCRIBAL ERROR(HURRITE MAY BE INTENDED,THEY SUPPOSEDLY HAD AN EMPIRE COVERING PALESTINE C.2100 BC.)
I am not sure whether the Hittites of the Bible and the Hittites of secular history based in Central Anatolia are the same nation. The latter were not really Hittites but a conquering Indo european nation that subdued the earlier inhabitants who were indeed called Hatti and took their name. These non indo european Hatti were there since the earliest days of history and could well have existed in the days Abraham.
