    roybatty,

I don't know you but when I read posts like yours it just makes me mad. Not that I'd want your son or my son to go off to war but rather I would want them to face their decision like a man, not a coward. They enjoy all the benefits of living in a rich nation but are then told to run and hide when their asked to do their duty.

That comment is coming from a scared momma. They would never move away. If I could decide for them I would. But I do understand what you are saying and I apologize for my comment.

Nah, no need to apologize. As the father of a 15 year old boy (who thinks he's a man) I know where you're coming from. Our country honors the men (and women) who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country but often forgotten are all the mothers who weep for their little boys. And on a side note, there is no way the draft will come back. It would be political suicide for any politician and impeachment for the president.

What a stupid fuc*ing thing to say!

I would rather a 'living' coward, then a 'dead' man who didn't run!

    1) Can anybody name an instance where UN sanctions accomplished something? Not trying to be a jerk, I just can't think of one.

    2) There was a great cartoon in the thirties after Japan invaded China. Two guys labeled "Japan" and "China" brawling on the ground. A bunch of suits labeled "League of Nations" are looking on. One of them is saying "Desist!" to no effect. Pretty well somes up how the UN has done in my opinion.

    3) There will be no draft. It would be suicide for whoever passes it and will not accomplish anything. Modern war is way too technological, you can't train a bunch of strong young men in six weeks and send them off to war anymore.

They are training our kids in 9 wks.....then AIT for a certain amount of time then off to Iraq. Alot of brand new recruits are going over right out of AIT. 18, 19,20 21 yrs old. 70% of new Army recuits are going over in less than 6mos of training. They have also lowered their standards to let people join the Army just to meet the demand.
