This is something that I have noticed people in the United States do, not just the witnessess. Time before the birth of Jesus or the birth of the ledgend of Jesus is refered to as before the Christian era. BCE. CE would be Christian error. If you pick up a copy of the world almanac in America the last one I looked at a number of years ago said somthing like recorded history began 4000 years before the birth of Jesus in Sumeria. That would be like 4000 BCE. Todays date would be 11/18/2006 CE or AD. AD is something like ado dani, off the top of my head, Im sure I'm spelling it wrong, which also means the year of our lord, or christian era. These are the designations that are given to time in secular history, in Ameriaca. I would guess that the catholic church has a strong influence on this dating system. You might say that man is both material and spiritual. Or man is being controlled or strongly influenced by religion.
Can someone explain why JW's use, "BCE, CE, etc" ???

AD MEANS ANNO DOMINI(YEAR OF OUR LORD)

In today's politically correct secular world, notice is made that the majority of the people in the world are not christian, and the use of BC and AD have specific Christian reference.
BCE and CE are culturally neutral and don't refer to any particular religious figure.
People who doubt the existence of a literal Jesus, or people who minimize him, like the WTB&TS, prefer the more politically correct form.

I would also say it is their Jewish inspired tendency to minimise the importance of Christ that stopped them from using BC and AD especially since AD stands for Anno Domini or year of the Lord which implies that Jesus is a Lord and the JWs absolutely hate that idea because to them only their jehovah is Lord and Jesus is a minor marginal and almost coincidental entity.
