free2beme....If you are tired of that plot structure, rent Mulholland Drive. You end up thinking "What the hell was that?" after watching the whole story fall apart ten minutes from the end, and then you have to use your brain to figure out what you've been watching the whole time. One of my favorite movies; it's like a psychological novel filled with symbolism and enigma that suddenly all makes sense when you figure out what's going on.
The plot line to almost all movies that come out today.

Have you ever read any Shakespeare? He pretty much improved on the 'formula' used even by the Bible - and it has worked these many centuries. Stories that don't have conflict and resolution are............usually boring.

Any David Lynch movie is like that. (except for maybe the one with Richard Farnsworth..."The Straight Story"):
- Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (I'd recommend the tv series first, if possible)
- The Lost Highway
- Blue Velvet

I actually feel the same about the series on television too. As much as a I like shows like CSI and numbers. I know full well I can watch the first ten minutes for the set up and leave and come back for the last ten minutes to explain it all. Everything in the middle is just the drag on drama points to get more time for commericals to sell.

What a ride! Except for it is the same ride in all movies. I just sit there watching each part reveal themselves and they never let me down. Anyone else notice this about modern cinema?
That's because you're at the age when you've seen quite a few movies and now recognize familiar patterns. And that's why I don't go to the theater very often anymore.
They come out with good stuff every once in a while.
And I second Mullholland Drive. Really enjoyed it.
I recently liked The Departed.
I use rottentomatoes.com to see if a film is worth my time and money. It has to rate pretty high on the tomato meter for me to go.
Current films that look interesting:
The Last King of Scotland
Deliver us From Evil
