If there are any elders (Big IF), reading the above material, interesting scriptures comes to mind, which might make you think
Leviticus 5 v 1
".. now, in case a soul sins in that he has heard public cursing and he is a witness or he has seen it or has come to know of it, if he does not report it, then he must answer for his error"
This couple with
James 3 v 1
"...not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgement"

Conscientious elders will want to do all they reasonably and peaceably can to preserve the confidentiality of the congregation in harmony with the principle set out in Acts 5:29.
Acts 5:29 - " 29 In answer Peter and the [other] apostles said: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men.
We are to obey the superior authorities up to the point where it conflicts with God's law. How does giving them this info violate Gods law? Nowhere in the bible does it condemn turning over this info to the superior authorities.

October 23, 2006 Goshen — A 50-year-old Jehovah's Witness has been found guilty of trying to lure underage boys in Middletown to have anal sex with him and pose for nude photographs.
Jesus Cano was detained by Middletown police on June 24. Cano had been handing out a small packet of papers that included a written note, several pictures of his naked buttocks and a name, phone number and e-mail address.
When the aunt of one of the boys called police, Det. Tom Miller posed as the boy, called the number on the card, and set up a meeting with Cano for later that night. When he arrived at the agreed meeting place, police took Cano in and later arrested him.
Cano was indicted on two felony counts and seven misdemeanor counts, two of which were dismissed by Judge Jeffrey Berry ahead of trial.
During the two-day, non-jury trial, Cano's lawyer John Ingrassia tried to show that there was insufficient evidence to prove Cano planned to go through with his intent to have sex of take naked photographs of a minor.
But Berry ruled today that there was sufficient evidence to find Cano guilty on five of the seven counts against him, including the two felonies.
He will be sentenced on Nov. 27. Assistant District Attorney Melissa Ferraro said she will be asking for the maximum of 2 2/3 to 7 years in prison.
Cano is a Mexican national with a valid visa to reside in the U.S. That visa will be revoked now that he's been convicted of a felony, and he will be deported after he serves his sentence. Have comments or questions on this story? Tell us!
In any disaster senario what's the thing to fear the most, the disaster itself? No, it's the stupid people around you that are the greatest worry.
I have to agree with On the way out and undercover on this one. Most posters on this subject are not stopping to read and think about these letters from the WTS.
The "superior authorities" are the ones that enacted the rights to legal counsel and protection of confidential information. These rights are important in a free and democratic society to prevent the abuse of power by the state. As well in their letter regarding compliance with the Data Protection Act the WTS does make the distinction between what info should be destroyed and what should not be.
If the WTS were to roll over and allow the authorities to do what they want it would set a VERY DANGEROUS precedent for all of society in general.
As with On the way out and undercover i do not condone the protection of child molesters from prosecution however as the WTS acknowledges in it's letter the revelation of confidential information could come back to haunt you if it's discovered that the information violated someone's rights. There has to be due process. Stripping away personal rights is dangerous and everytime it happens democracy is weakened even if it is for a good cause such as the protection of children.
Democracy is a wonderful idea that is extremely difficult to implement and it walks a very fine line. The most important way to help preserve and nurture it's growth is not to overreact or react on impulse but to carefully and slowly consider the issues at hand. We who are not directly involved in pending cases should avoid inflaiming people's opinions for this serves only to incite anger and hatred and prevent logical thinking.
In the light of current events, may be worth bumping this...(2nd post)
