Defy Logic

I think other than real hard evidence, seeing an Ex-JW actually getting on with their life must really scare a JW. Shouldn't we be upset, down and practically begging for a chance to get back into the proverbial ark?

Also when you do bring up hard evidence, there are times when you can tell by the expression of any dub change into either shock or anger before they re-arrange it and do their best to tear down said evidence.

I love to Defy Logic, i'm determined now to make a success of my life so i can (hopefully) get mum to see what really makes a good family and what really makes a person happy. Religion used to play a major role in a lot of our lives (as witnesses) but now its place is shrinking.

Do you Defy the Logic of Dubs?

Good for you Karl, I hope you succeed. I did that with Linda (fullofdoubtnow). I never criticised the wts in her prescence while she was still in, I just showed her how much happier I was away from the lie than I had ever been while in it, and she knows me well enough to know I wasn't putting on a show for her benefit.

If you can get a jw to see you are happier without the religion, they are baffled by it because it goes against their teachings, and hopefully intrigued enough to try and find out more about what's making you happy. Once you've got them wondering, there's a chance for them.

    Good luck with you mum!

Good for you, Dedpoet Sounds like you handled it the best possible way. Sometimes, the harder we try to get someone to "see" things, the more they are determined NOT to see things the right way....and Karl?

Good luck buddy. My parents can't understand why my family is so happy, and not all depressed, like they are. I'm hoping that very soon, I'll be able to tell my parents EXACTLY why we're so much happier now....but I'm not going to hold my breath that they'll listen and really get it.

Good for you Karl! You're right hon, the best revenge is living well. When my sister left "the troof" at the age of 16, she did what so many have done: she got in to drugs, drinking, smoking, and sleeping around. Alot do the same thing when they leave either because they've got really low self-esteem, or because the religion was so damn oppressive, that after being told "no, no, no" for so long, they do absolutely everything that was forbidden to them as Dubs. Unfortunately, the Witnesses secretly love it when this happens because then they can shake their head, cluck their tongue and quote " "The dog has returned to its own vomit, and the sow that was bathed to rolling in the mire." They use this as "proof" of what happens when someone leave "the one true religion", ignoring the fact that it was probably the religion itself that contributed to the person's lack of self esteem or ability to have a goal in life that didn't include knocking on doors.

Witnesses do NOT like it when you leave the Organization, and appear happy, busy and fulfilled while living a decent, clean life. Drives them nuts. It goes against everything they believe. So Karl, if you've got goals and are willing to work your ass off to make them a reality, then maybe in time, your mother will be able to see that the WTS does not equal happiness.

I wish you the best as well. Everyone needs motivation in life, if that fuels you then go with it. One thing you should keep in mind is that you should still be doing it for you, not out of spite or revenge.

I love when i talk to a ex-friend and they always seem to ask this, " how are you doing", but not in the cordial way. In the way that they are are almost looking down on me. As if i was going to respong with, "you know, i am lost, i don't know where to turn, my life is in shambles." I love to respond "i am doing great, i am doing what i want to do, i have been successful professionally, i am dating a gorgeous girl, i couldn't ask for anything else." which i feel i have and do. there usually is a look of surprise and that alone, although few and far between these days, gives me great pleasure, both confidence wise and gratification.

most i can see though, are still looking for something and not quite happy. i guess they are still waiting for something. wait that sounds familiar

Excellent advice--don't let them have schadenfreude.

This tactic works well if you've been able to save for retirement. Dubs are encouraged not to save for retirement. They want them dirt poor. Case in point: there is a divorced pioneer sister who is out every day, rain or shine. I worked with her on Sunday. It turns out she makes a pitiful amount of money, but is happy to be dirt poor. She is in her 50s....what's going to happen when 60 rolls around and the pills and the doctor visits start piling up? What about a traumatic accident? To be fair, she does have mental issues, but the Borg's unwise advice just aggravates the problem. They've got the most brainwashed living on a razor's edge.

Well said, Mary, that's exactly how I felt when I realised how much happier Trev was away from the wts than I was still in it. I was so puzzled because it went so much against everything I'd been taught that it got me thinking, then investigating, and eventually out of the org.

KW, I wish you the very best with your mum. I hope you succeed in getting her to at least think about why you are so happy. I know from experience that once you get a jw thinking, anything is possible.

If your life is really screwed up, they want you to come to family gatherings, special mettings etc. They act kind but the real reason is so that you can be a showpiece of what happens when you stop going to meetings. Of course the poor bastard with the screwed up life just wants some real friends and family to hang out with. The JW's want to use him in the guise of encouraging him.

The one thing that will get you shunned quicker than white on rice is to have a respectable life characterized by values while you are not attending the Hall. This is revolting and must be hid from the friends at all costs. It is the one thing that shakes their view of reality to its foundations. Just watch their fangs come out. Get on drugs, catch a disease, act like you are lost without them and watch the phone start ringing for "encouragement".

It is nothing short of demonic.
