New Tract Distribution Question

I ran into a JW friend doing the tract work this weekend, and she was carrying the tracts in a folder. Both her and her partner looked like they were out doing a survey because of the way they were holding the folder with no bookbag present. I just talked to an ex-JW friend in another state, and he said he saw someone in his neighborhood doing the same thing, and didn't think they were JW's because of it, but a tract ended up at their door.

Just curious, for those of you in the know, was there some instruction to do this work in this way?

No but many of the witnesses get those from a brother that started a business selling that sort of thing to witnesses. The guy's making a killing.

These were the instructions already in the last campaign I participated in, years ago.

JW's in my area were told to just distribute the tract...Do not carry a bookbag and do not spend much time talking to any people...just get your alotment of tracts distributed...sounds like that is what is happenning in other areas also...

It's probably an attempt to look like something other than Jehovah's Witnesses. When people see the bookbag many won't answer the door. Once when I was doing streetwork a guy ran across a busy street to avoid me during a tract campaign. He was nearly hit by a car. Then another JW nailed him on the other side of the street. Poor bastard.

Yes, very detailed instruction at the service meeting to kick off this campaign. Try to go out without a field service bag.

Carry just the tracts (and your notepad to write down interest and placements). Don't try to engage people in a long
conversation. Be positive and leave them their personal copy. I think the goal was to not offend people, so that they
take the flyer, thereby, they can say what a huge success it was. They also wanted irregular or inactive JW to get out
there, so they made it so easy to do.

That explains it. I remember doing the tracts years ago and but don't remember instruction to not use a bookbag. I also remember being excited about the tract work, solely because we would be just handing out something and wouldn't have to talk to anyone. Kind of the same feeling I got when the speaker didn't show up for the talk on Sunday and there was a prospect of going home early.

Many are not even carrying bibles, just leave one at every door and move on.

The purpose is to cover territory and not talk to the people.

JW are once again very excited about the message, thinking that the GB might know something about the end.

Of course the end has been around the corner for the last 140 years.

You might try going to the door without a book bag. You could put the featured literature that you wish to offer in a slim portfolio and carry the Bible in your hand or pocket. Then, when you engage someone in conversation, you can bring out the Bible without causing the person to feel that you are trying to preach a sermon.
