Thank you for telling us! I think it really hit me that Britain was behind us when they played our national anthem over the tv. THAT really hit my heart and made me realize that this world was going to pull through this. Tell your pub friends that yes we know. Do they know how 100% thankful we are? Not just our government, but the grass roots of our country? If not, please tell them. The grief is a little less sharp when we know others are helping us carry it.

    Love,
Andi *clink* (a toast to all your buds tonight at The Waverly.)

    Englishman, and all,
As Bush said, Britain has proven itself our truest friend. They literally ARE our bridge to Europe. It's more than that, it's like having an older brother on this playground called earth where bullies can dart out from behind the bushes at any moment.
True, like brothers, we may have had our tussles (that little revolution thing), but in the end there's a deep respect and abiding familial loyalty.
So, YES! and wholeheartedly, we appreciate and acknowledge your support from the "isle of the mighty". I for one, will NEVER forget it as long as I live, and neither will my children. And little brother America may be younger, but we're bigger, and if anyone blackens Britain's eye on this playground, we will be there, post HASTE!! When this first started, and we were unsure of who, what, when, where my husband told me, if no one else stands up with us, Britain will!
Cheers to you and your countrymen!

I'm fond of the words found above the "Peace Arch", a structure at the Canadian boarder crossing in Washington State:
    "Children of a Common Mother"

I've always been an Anglophile: lover of Monte Python, Blackadder, Absolutely Fabulous, Fawlty Towers, and the Royal Family (a lesser known comedy troupe). But underneath the wonderful humor of the British people is a stalwart and brave spirit; one which enabled them to survive the bombings of WWII and emerge stronger than ever. Our Mother has given us a legacy of courage.

Now if you guys could just learn to hold your forks in the correct hand....

Considering our language barrier, I think we get along with the Brits just fine.

Britain and America are only separated by the same language.

I think Americans have a lot to learn from the fortitude of the British during the blitz.
