Have you ever had an encounter with a UFO?

One of the things I believe in the most, is UFOs and I think there is something to it. When I was about 16 years old, a group of us friends would go hiking a lot on the weekend. We would rough it to some degree, just a sleeping back and sleeping under the stars. One night, while hiking into a lake in Northern California, we all were sleeping in a clearing just out of legal distance from a small mountain lake we liked to fish in. At about two in the morning, my friend woke me up and asked me to see something. I woke and in the distance was a large bright light that was lightening up the night sky. We thought at first it might be a helicopter with a spot light on, but it made no noise. As we all watched it, it went behind the trees and the light was shinning from behind the trees. It was so bright, I could have taken a book out and read too it. We all thought it was weird and since we were all Witnesses, we kind of did not want to say UFO. As you know, that was something we said was not real and a product of Satan's world. So it then just set there behind the trees for about five or ten minutes and all the area was as bright as I mentioned, and we all were wondering if we should walked the couple hundred hard to see what it was. No one was much up to volunteering for this. Then it started to rise, and went up slowly at first. As it got above the tree lines, it started to speed up and then in a second it was gone and out of site. No engine noise, no sound at all. One of the weirdest things I saw as a young person. We all had a hard time sleeping that night, talking about it and trying to figure out what it was. One person even suggested praying to Jehovah about it, as they were scared. Well, we ended up trying to sleep the rest of the night away, to little success and the next morning the majority of the group wanted to just go home and we did. We talked about it a ton to others, when we got home. Soon though, we got a talking to by an elder, about how we should not spread the worlds faults lies about UFOs and most people thought we so a helicopter or something. Soon, that is what the story changed too, we heard a helicopter and it made the wind blow when it landed and there was people talking and so on. Those who lived it, and were honest with themselves, knew that was not true ... but we were Witnesses! So years later, after my exit, I ran across one of those friends one day and learned they left the Witnesses too. We talked about things we did as a child, and guess what comes up. So, did we just fool ourselves?

Personally, I think something is to the sightings. I think people might sometimes mistake military planes or other things, as UFOs. That is always going to be a percentage, but not all the time. I think there is something to it, and that is why I keep an open mind. I have always wanted to go to Area 51 and watch the night sky, just outside the outskirts and when I see programs about it on the History or Discover channel, I enjoy watching. What do you think though, any experiences like mine? Please share your thoughts.

What you saw was definitely a ufo. You couldn't identify it and it was flying. I have strong doubts about whether or not contact has been made with alien beings(or spacecrafts), however. I can't completely rule it out but, just because I can't explain something doesn't mean there isn't another explanation. I saw a UFO once when I was a kid, too. Was it an alien spaceship?Probably not. I know what it wasn't. It wasn't a plane, it wasn't a helicopter, it wasn't a hot air balloon or a weather balloon either, and I haven't forgotten about it.

With the size of the universe, the chances that we on earth are the only "intelligent" beings in it seems unlikely.

I want to add, I am an extremely skeptical person. I am an atheist. I don't believe in magic, spirits, ghosts, mediums, etc. I'll express my doubts to those who have said they have seen unexplainable things like ufos. I really, really have doubts about aliens abducting humans and experimenting on them and think that most if not all of those claiming them are lying or crazy(or were under the influence of some sort of mind altering chemical).

While I understand the need of skeptics in society. As they help to keep people in check, and stop people from going to far off the deep end. I see skeptics like Witnesses at times, so bent on the idea of anything that is not fitting nicely in a their own little mental box, that they loss out on learning things that may prove helpful to them in the future. I think we all need a certain percentage of skepticism, but we also need to realize that the universe is not so easy to explain that there is not room for learning and accepting things that might not fully seem possible yet. I would bet, that if the world revealed all it's secrets, there would be a lot of skeptics left feeling foolish.

I think the term UFO is misleading. While it does mean Unidentified Flying Object. It often is meant to be speaking about alien life form ships. I think most people know this, and I think there needs to be another name to explain something that is meant to just people, something we know is probably human made, and yet we do not know what it is.

I have some skeptic in me, on some things. At the same time, I believe in aliens, spirits, magick, remote viewing, mediums, etc. I explore these things often, and enjoy the topic. I have seen skeptics freak out on me, when I mention them and I immediately see a person saying "How can you turn on Jehovah, and turn to demons" ... even though they might be saying something completely different.

I'm just saying, Most people that claim they have seen UFO's (alien spacecraft) are just wrong about it. As a result, those that possibly have are forced to have a larger burden of proof put upon them. I am a skeptic. It is in my nature. I really would love to be "proven" wrong about most of the things I am skeptical of. Honestly. I believe that there are indeed aliens. I also believe that they are most likely not what most people think they would be like (beings with two legs and large heads and big eyes) I have no proof of such things at all, as nobody that I know of has indisputable proof of them either. However, the likelyhood of the universe and how large it is having other lifeforms in them capable of more than we humans are is greater than not.

You have to admit though(ok, you don't have to), a lot of the people claiming alien encounters are, well, not really the most reputable people. Same with psychics, mediums, religious leaders, etc.

Oh, I can honestly see why some people would see people who believe in such things as whack jobs, when some of the most up front people are not always as mentally stable as you would want. At the same time, these are often a small majority of the group and the ones I have spoken too about these topics are in some cases, scared to say anything to people they do not trust. They are not writing books, not teaching classes on the subject, just working with it and in cases dealing with it. I liked Carl Sagan quote, "If we truly are alone in the universe, what a waste of space." Personally, I think like on other worlds if not a question, there is live on other planets. It is a mathematical certainty. In a universe as large as this universe, nothing happens in only one place and one time. I personally think that we often think about space travel, as the way it is shown in Hollywood. With large ships moving threw space with WARP engines, or LIGHT SPEED. I think that if alien life does travel through space, I would say they did it, in a dimensional jump or warping of time and space. I think this is the only conceivable way a species could travel the huge distances of space and get anywhere. I also think the greys, would be a product of not seeing things clearly. I personally think that alien life could take two course of thought. One, they could be like us in shape and size or they would be completely off the other end of life. Maybe a energy form or something. I think the laws of life, have taught us that life has some basic principles to it and it is likely that other worlds would be subject to the same laws of physics and time. Anyway, I still do not know what I saw, but I know UFOs are not demons.

Here (click on me) is a 2 hour video in which over twenty military, government, corporate and scientific witnesses give their UFO accounts. This was taped on May 9th 2001.

There have been reports of nuclear silo's losing power. And that would be a logical step.

But why would they land. Soil samples? Or, is it like ET, and they like plants :P ?

Crop circles are made by people. Most everyone that has one of those stories is wrong, crazy, or lying.

However, there ARE odd things that go on. And I belive your story (To the extent I can trust someone I don't know over the internet :P ) . Three people can't see the same halucination.

As for Military aircraft? You overestimate the US military. They are just as inept as the rest of the human race :P . They'd be using anything they discovered by now. Maybe...
