Oh, and one other thing. When I first took my kids trick-or-treating, my son was dressed as young David (complete with sling & staff), and my daughter, as a butterfly. I got so many complements, and the kids got extra treats, because their orginality and lack of horror. Both of them won first prize at the custume contest at our local mall.

Sometimes it pays to be original, and not shocking.

Funny I was just talking to my grandma about this yesterday, she said "its just a day for kids to have fun, and as long as no one gets hurt let them have fun and get all the candy they want" (my grandma is catholic, she doesn't like the way JW's go way over board on stupid things. My grandma is awesome!!!!

We're Jewish, so it has never been a problem. No doubt at least a million people die every year in natural disasters and God doesn't bother to stop that from happening. So I really doubt that God is paying any attention to some children and adults dressing up and going out for some fun tomorrow evening.

My answer to him was "a very balanced, nonsuperstitous one".

That's exactly how I feel. If I were anxious or superstitious, I would feel a bit differently about letting my kids dress up as a monster. But we just have a laugh over it.

BTW, my middle son is going as Elvis. He has some Elvis-style glasses with sideburns attached, and I just made him a white jumpsuit of sorts. It's hysterical!

One of my daughter in law's friends is a Christian, and told me yesterday her church is doing a Trunk or Treat thing at the church. Everyone comes with a trunk full of candy, and the kids go through the parking lot car to car, in costume (no demonic ones of course). To each his own.

Funny thing too, I grew up celebrating Halloween with two parents who never attended church regularly and still did not become a devil worshiper. I became a Christian at 12 and still am one at 37. As a matter of fact I have never in my life heard of anyone becoming a devil worshiper just because they celebrated Halloween as a young child, have you?

I think I would have handled it much the way you did Lilly even though I'm not a Christian. It might relieve you to learn the history of Halloween I was surprised to learn it's origins which don't sound that evil at all. I think it's a JW twist on it that makes it evil and of the devil. If the real Jesus was as cute as you, I'm sure he had alotta girls throwing themselves at him.

Well, Mary Magdalene, for one, if you believe the new historians.

As far as Im concerned Halloween is another pagan ritual like all the rest, days of the week, common mariage rituals, etc.. No big deal and I dont see any real link to anything bad or Satanic. Just another holiday for certain religions to demonize as evil and leading to Satan. Both my kids are going and Im taking them trick or treating. We already did the pumpkin carve, halloween party and the whole schimozel. Really I think it's just shedding that JW mentality and getting on with life, don't let their former idea's pigeon hole your psyche, but rather move on.

A woman I worked with was listening to me talk about my Halloween plans and made a similar comment. To which I said, "Someone who is not a Christian, for one." She is so ignorant on the world, that she did not think anyone in the USA was not a Christian and spent the rest of the day asking if people were Christian and learned she worked with several people that are not Christian and many were atheist. So she learned a good lesson today. Some people are so sheltered.
