Any stereotypes regarding so-called "religious" persons?? As a rule, I am seeing that many religious people are "nuts"!

Depends on the person. I've talked (briefly) with religious nutjobs who either insisted that Jesus loves me or hissed at me for raising my son with "humanist" principles. On the other hand, there are many lovely people on this site who are Christian. I suspect the nutjobs get the most attention because they like to get in people's faces, whereas the kind, sincere ones are content to quietly try to set a good example.

I've gotten less defensive around them and don't always feel the need to let my inner Saul out. I clean teeth for a living and talk to people about everything all day long. In my experience, the people that are religious and have all their questions answered have the least to talk about and are very rigid and haughty and condescending when asked simple questions. Sound familiar? They also are seriously not living in the present moment, their awareness has been held hostage and is transfixed on the things yet to come. However, there are twice as many religious/spiritual people who fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum and you can't put them into one box. They are generally nice people who have chosen religion as their frame of reference for dealing with their reality. I personally just find it boring and unsatisfying.

There are some on here, Little Toe, Jgnat, that I respect, and a few that I know personally that I like.

I tend to question the thinking ability of most fundamentalist and literalist religious people I meet. The mountain of evidence against that view is just overwhelming. And yet they tend to be the most "I know what's best for you!" types, pushing their values on the rest of us.

That really gets to me. It's hard to be as tolerant as I once thought I was.

There can be extremists on both sides of that coin.....or not. I feel comfortable around those who are not, so I don't feel pushed to take a stand on the subject of belief.

Most of the world's troubles come from religious extremists. JWs take pride in that they don't get politically involved in wars but their view makes them feel elite and better than everyone else.

Amen to that. Religious people tend to be close minded to things. Also they tend to be war mongers.

Ah, Bush! I can't wait to vote next Tuesday, and help start the process that begins to get rid of this cast of dispicable politicians!

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that, at best right now, we'll be replacing them with a cast of only slightly less dispicable politicians.
