For believers: Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?

While thinking about this bible verse today taken from Matthew 18, I began seeing a correlation to our time and the trend among Christian churches. There are several that I am sure we can name that make claims such as "We are the only true church" or "We are the only true Christians" or even that "No one can see the truth unless they are in contact with our church to teach it". And these ones judge others by placing everyone outside their group in "spiritual darkness".

Isn't this the same thing as Jesus' early disciples asking "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom?" and each believing it was he? And didn't the Lord admonish the disciples for even thinking about such a thing? If so, why have we who call ourselves Christian, not learned our lesson by reading this account and therefore more than two thousand years later - we are still doing the same exact thing?

    Any comments about this? Lilly

Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?

Euclidean Triangles are greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven... greater even than god! Not even god can make a Euclidean Triangle have more or less than a sum of 180 Degrees in all of its angles. This means that the Triangle is more powerful than god.

    Triangles for the win!

I don't think most christian churches would say they alone have the truth over other churches or that their church is the greatest. Many pastors from various faiths have great respect for other christian religions and interact with them. The gumbyites are the most unified however.

I heard this one illustration. Churches are like a bunch of people standing in the fog. They all say, "Hey, it's totally clear right by me! Look at all those other fools - they are in the fog." They all have a similar perspective. Maybe people think there is only one way and defend whatever they are invested in.

    XU,

nice comment. I think that sounds about right.

    Gumby,

there are many groups claiming to be the only true church, Jehovah's Witnesses, Bible Students and Mormons are just a few. Lilly

I have never thought of that scripture like that, but I love it. That's exactly the scripture and reasoning I need to explain how I feel. Thanks for sharing.

The question is, are they part of the body of christ or are they part of the body of State? Is the church incorporated in Christ or are they incorporated in the State? If they are incorported in Christ, then Christ is the head of the church and the authority over it. If they are incorporated in the State, then the State is the head and authority of their church and they have denigned Christ and his authority. If you don't belive me, look at what"s happening to 501 3 (c) churches that speak about political issues. Belive it or not, most so called christian churches are anti-christ because they have made the State the head of their church through incorpoation with the State, rather than incorporating themselves in Christ, they have become part of the body of the State and not part of the body of the Christ. State incorporated churches have no standing in the Kingdom of Heaven, for they have given up the truth for the lie... They would rather have Caesar as their King rather than the Christ. Acadian,

Great comments. I agree with that 100%. That is why it is important for Christians when choosing a church affiliation to make sure they are not part of the state. Again, excellent point you brought out. Peace, Lilly
