We have a lot of hunters in the family, none were trophy hunters, though they were all happy to get a huge elk with lots of antler things. Points? Almost none of them hunt anymore, but half the reason they did in the first place was so that we could eat meat on a regular basis. As we got older, it was habit, now they are busy with other things, biking, photography, family projects.

The availability of firearms has little to do with the high number of gun deaths in the USA. There are other countries with high access to firearms that don;t have such high level of gun deaths.

American's don;t have a high rate of gun deaths because they have lots of guns, they have a high rate of gun deaths because lots of Americans kills lots of other Americans.\

    It really is that simple.

The reason WHY American's are so disproportionately likely to kill when compared to other cultures with high levels of firearm availability is the one that warrants looking at.

    Sam,

If you think guns kill people then cars get speeding tickets and forks and spoons make people fat.

Michael Moore is an idiot who doesn't know truth from fiction. He's laughing all the way to the bank knowing that he has fooled people into believing his crap.

The Moose is our our big attraction if you hit one on the highway (they are as big and massive as a horse) because of their long legs they get catapuled through the windshield not pretty.

    Sam,

more firearms available to the general public = more chances of accidents from firearms

Interesting formula. Let's try it with other things, okay?

more scissors available to the general public = more chances of accidents from scissors. Solution? Clearly, legally outlaw or restrict scissor ownership.

more knives available to the general public = more chances of accidents from knives. Solution? Clearly, legally outlaw or restrict knife ownership.

more automobiles available to the general public = more chances of accidents from automobiles. Solution? Clearly, legally outlaw or restrict auto ownership.

more ladders available to the general public = more chances of accidents from ladders. Solution? ... etceteras ad infinitum.

Do you see the point? Gun control lobbyists seek to protect citizens from potential harm by legislation outlawing or restricting gun ownership. More stringent registration laws are plainly an effort in the direction of outlawing public ownership of firearms, it has been the precursor in every country where outlawing of firearms has occurred (in case you were wondering why we US citizens object to that bit of infringement).

Responsible adults recognize that many material objects are potentially deadly and exercise reasonable care and caution in their usage. Where they are negligent, the courts can already hold them accountable for negligence, e.g. if a person failed to inspect their breaks properly and an automobile accident resulted in a major pileup on the Interstate.

    Respectfully,

Although I'm a hunter and gun owner, I'm not keen on trophy hunting either. Purely from a pragmatic, biological standpoint, I don't think that removing the larger, more robust specimens from the gene pool every chance you get is a good way to manage a wildlife population

My two cents worth...I don't like pictures of dead things. I think that taking pictures of things you've kiled is a little twisted. I think that people who take pictures of dead things and are proud of killing the thing being photographed are a little twisted. And finally, people who take pictures of dead animals that they hunted ought to wonder how the picture would look if the hunter were to become the hunted? I mean, really, how macho is it to kill something that had no way of defending itself?

BlackPearl Don't come into my house you will see lots of dead things hanging on my walls. I can tell you probably have things that would bother me like posters of Rapper's or Heavy Metal bands.... Maybe a few satanic items hanging around. I do not know that you do but if I was to bet I would put money on it, am I correct?

My elderly next door neighbour fell down her stairs and broke her ankle. If stairs were banned I'm sure there would be fewer injuries in the home. Stairs cause injuries.

I'm going deer hunting this weekend. If I see a deer I'll kill him, and I'll be very happy to eat venison sausages for breakfast again.

I really don't care if it has a good rack or not. I'm going hunting because I like the outdoor experience, I like shooting, and I like venison.

And because the law allows it.
