I had first polyps removed in 1960 when I was 16 years old. I've had colonoscopy many times. Last one this year. The worst part for me is not eating the day before. I don't start drinking the colite till about 4 pm or so.
The payoff is the drugs. The nurse says there'll be a little sting. I tried to get her to give me a starter dose to just get me in the mood, but no go. My next colonoscopy is 5 years, 2011. That's a long time to wait for a buzz. -

At what age do females have to start having this done?
I understand that the guideline is: Take the age of your youngest blood relative when they were first diagnosed with colon trouble. Subtract 10 years. That is the age at which families should be screened.
If no colon cancer in the family, age 50.
It's truly a life-saving procedure.

any here been thru this wonderful experience?
I haven't actually had one, but I've helped with many!! Getting cleaned out is the worst part!! But it really isn't too bad!! Usually! Just try not to eat too heavy Thursday.
And don't forget to be nice to the nurses!! Gifts always help!! heeheehee

I've never had one, but I suppose it's in my future.
I wish you well with yours

Had my first one earlier this year. The procedure itself is no big deal -- the drugs take care of almost all pain (except a few twinges that are not bad). To me the unpleasant part is the taste of the cleaner-outer (I can't remember what it's called!) and its equally unpleasant results. But all of that is still very minor compared to the satisfaction of being told that you're healthy.

Actually, my mom just went thru it yesterday. She's 80, sickly and could not have meds that put her in la la land. I had it done this past summer. Was a pieceof cake! No pain whatsoever.

I've had one every year for the last five years, and have had a few polyps removed. When it's all over I treat myself to a Chinese buffet, thinking all the extra space inside me will enable me to get my money's worth of food. It doesn't, but it's worth a try.

I've had it done and it was really not too bad. Even the cleaning out the day before was tolerable, though I will never drink ginger ale again. Being able to drink beef bouillion helped a lot. I did not have any pain afterwards.
