Too bad- some folks here did a calculation and said that evin if all dubs placed ALL their tracts they'd only cover 300 million of the earth's inhabitants (mainly in western lands where people toss them straight in the garbage), thus only reaching a maximum of 4 1/2 % of the earth's population...
I think many publishers, inflamed with zeal, get packet after packet of 50 tracts each for "placement in the ministry". (eeeee- I love using those buzzwords!)
Anyway, my friend in CA said her hubby was up to 250 tracts placed...
Sorry to burst the 300 million max bubble. Hopefully there are as many pulishers placing, like, 10 at the most to counteract this dreaded scourge.
:)

They do actually place more than 50 of those tracts per publisher... :(

"Placing" tracts in unoccupied doorsteps, mailboxes, and budget laundromats is a lot like "scattering the seeds on the rocks" darn, my vocab is slipping. I used to be better. Anyways, there are almost equal amounts of householders "placing" the tracts in the round file or in the fireplace.

Someone refresh my memory: do you count tract placements on your Service Report at the end of the month?

Not unless they've changed the time slips since I last filled one in, which was around 15 months ago. I seem to remember someone mentioning that pubs were supposed to note down placements for this tract though.

What does it matter.
I suspect that 99% of them will be thrown in the trash anyway. But, JWs and the WT will still find a way to declare victory.

YEP, this is a brand new thing. They said to write the number of tracts on the back of the service slip.
IMO, this is leading to bragging rights on how many were placed, and possibly to starting to count tracts
in the future, so costs can be down. (I remember when tracts were $.01 each) -

Based on what I've seen...
A handful of super-zealous types may place several hundred...
This will be more than offset by the "slackers" who only go out in service 3 or 4 hours per month, and leave 5 or 10 total.
The 300 million was presented as a sort of "outer limit". Actual distribution will probably be under 200 million. And has been noted in other posts - "distributed" doesn't mean "read" - I'm sure 99% of the population who find one stuffed in their doorframe won't glance at it for more than 5 seconds.
Mary: Yes, for this special campaign, you are supposed to write on the back of your time slip how many you placed. "Placed" includes left at not-at-homes, dropped off in laundromats, etc.
The stupidest part is, the Society will trumpet proudly about what a "marvelous global witness" was given, and will cite the "X hundred million" tracts recorded as "placed" as proof of that. Nitwits.

In my congregation the elders told everyone to leave the tracts discretely at not-at-homes so some people are placing hundreds of them. Its easy service, you go to the door knock, leave them the tract and move on. I think this campaign is more to get people who hate service out than anything else.
