So naturally I like KRS-ONE, who is the conscieousness of rap. During my Society years I didn't really listen to rap, but some songs I cound not resist listening 2 i.e. 'Brand New Flavor in Your Ears' (Craig Mack/ Bad Boy Family), 'Vapors' (Biz Markie), 'Cross Over' (Eric B - Rakim.)"

Word.......that was probably hip-hop's golden age (late 80's-early 90's). Yo, Rakim was like the next coming of Christ in hip-hop circles back in the day....

"So in answer to your question, Yes, i'm into rap music but I'm also into changing it's content. In the mean while, see rap for it's entertainment value and please don't try to live that life. And have an open ear to ALL TYPES OF MUSIC."

    word........

"Did you know Ja Rule was a JW? Well, not baptized, but I think his Momma is one."

Ja Rule WAS raised around JW's even though he never was baptized. Also, Biggie's mom IS a current JW. She goes to a congo in Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn. Her congo's name escapes me right now. Also, MC Lyte was raised around JW's as well.....

"My son (Lunatic the Messiah)recently won the Miller Genuine Draft Freshest MC contest here in Chicago. After that he opened for JaRule. He has a CD out and I'm praying he'll make it. Having gone to the KH when he was small has given him a real "different" slant in his lyrics, as you can imagine.

My favorite of his..."What Would God Do if He Were ME?""

Yo...I've heard your son. In fact they've played a couple of his joints during one of the late-night mix shows in Detroit. Hope he blows up.......

I'm down with the original hip hopper's b4 lyrics, when it was break drancers, loud music in the parks, street fashion, etc

That's still around, hip-hop's breakdancers never went away, the 4 elements of hip-hop, Graffiti writin, mcing, djing and bboying are still valid and around. We still breakdance in public parks with loud music blaring, still break to the old skool and the new.

    that's true hophop

Well, I'm into alot of different types of music...I just grew up on mostly rap since I had 2 older brothers.
When I was about 8 or so, I use to listen and sing along with Sirmixalots' song, "Baby got back"...hehehe...and of course Pac, Warren G...u know.
Right now, I love Pac, Bone Thugs, Nelly, Jay-Z, Brotha Lynch Hung, Trina, Ja, DMX, Snoops' old School (ex: Gin and Juice) etc...And yes, I knew about Ja Rule being a JW and his mom....(3:36)

As far as other types of music, I love R&B; Jon B, Ginuwine, 112, Jagged Edge, the list goes on...

    I have another question:
There's an old School song that is one of my favs, but I don't know who sings it. I think it's called "I wanna be your man" it has that computer voice in it...anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks for the help.

I like the hip hop gabber that Producer, Scorpio, Clarkee amongst others drop. Now thats music.

Personally I dont like commercial hip hop, but if it wasnt for hip hop there would be no jungle, and hardcore as we know it wouldnt be the same.

    Breakbeats rule.

Babyboo, that "computer song", I Wanna Be Your Man, was by Roger Troutman of Zapp. Sorry to say he died a while back. Don't remember how or what happened. Just remember a station here in Chicago doing a tribute to him.

I love Bone Thugs too. I loved their video for "Change the World", with all the gangbangers, murderers, and robbers turning into little children. And the quotes of the scriptures at the end. If only we COULD all be like children....

Thanks Tatiana, I've been looking up songs to download off of this one site and burn on a cd.
Has anyone heard D12's new album...that shit is funny. My bro went to HS with him, and another friend of ours used to rap with him, he has a home video of them rapping in his downstairs basement. It's pretty crazy.
Has anyone seen the Bubba Sparxxx video "ugly"? The video is funny but at the same time scares me....I'm afraid I might get nightmares if I see it b4 bed.... :)
    holla

Yeah I've seen Roger and Zapp a few times and they love that voice box.

    I can't believe nobody mentioned:

    Kurtis Blow
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five'
    Sugar Hill Gang
    EPMD
    De La Soul
Black Sheep (You can get with this, or you can get with that)

We listen to all sorts of music at my house, cause we love all kinds (well actually my husband is the only one that digs classical YECCH--and I had to introduce him to new skool rap--can't understand a damn word they're saying)
but it is very funny to see my daughter's little white friends singing "Clap your hands everybody if you've got what it takes-cuz I'm Kurtis Blow and I want you to know that these are the breaks!"

And her little black friends singing to Styx and Aerosmith.

ha ha. and we've got them all listening to Incognito, Ozomatli and Marcus Miller (the MAN!)

When the kids aren't around for sure I'm listening to Dre, Nate Dogg, Snoop, Busta, Method Man.

(DAYUM who said Craig Mack--here comes the brand new flava in ya ear?)
