Yawn, another ex-jw website promoting the trinity. Why is it so important for ex-JW's to convince JW's they must believe the trinity? And what is Cal Lehman talking about here: "For a few years wire-rimmed glasses were condemned. If a person came into a Kingdom Hall with wire rims, that individual would have to sit down for a conference. He would be told, "We notice you are wearing wire rims. You are falling out of the truth. We are concerned about this. We think you need help." Wire-rimmed glasses?? I've never heard that one before.

Actually, when I first started researching the history of the JW's that was one of the first sites I had visited, and it was the first site I joined up to talk about JW's. So yes, I am on that site as well. :)

    Cheers

    Hi yaddavadda,

First I want to say that while I personally believe in the Trinity I feel the last thing that anyone should do is insist that one must believe in the Trinity to be saved.

Personally I advise folks who come to my web site to avoid the subject of the Trinity when talking to Jehovah's Witnesses, or those who have come out of the Wathtower.

The Gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Nothing more needs to be or should be added.

If there is anything on my web site that indicates that one must believe the Trinity to be saved please point it out and I will correct it immediately as that is not my belief.

As for the "wire-rimed glasses"! Well that was in the 60’s and it came on the heels of the popularity of John Denver. John Denver was a very patriotic performer who wore wire-rimmed glasses and made them popular, reportedly he also made some comments against Jehovah's Witnesses during his concerts. Imitating him by wearing wire-rimmed glasses was frowned upon in my congregation.

Perhaps it was a local issue but in the congregation I attended in the early 60’s the elders where on the watch for wire-rimmed glasses. It put one in the same category as one wearing a beard. Perhaps some other folks on the forum who where in the Watchtower in the 60’s also remember this.

Don’t forget the history of the Watchtower goes back over 100 years so we may not always be aware of everything they have taught in the past. Just because we don’t remember it does not mean it is not so.

BTW, the John Denver story is listed as an urban legend at the www.snopes.com site.

The most common version of the story has John Denver, he of the angelic face and kindly manner, demanding the Jehovah's Witnesses in his audiences depart. No reason is given for his enmity, no explanation offered as to what they might have done to have so incurred his wrath. He orders them away, and (we are left to surmise) they meekly get up and leave.

Woah, AWESOME that they have an article on that now, Blondie... look how new it is!

Last I checked Snopes, it didn't have ANY article containing the phrase Jehovah's Witnesses in it ANYWHERE... much to my chagrin. This rocks.

    Thanks for the heads up

"The Gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Nothing more needs to be or should be added." A gross simplification, and anyway what does that have to do with the Trinity? The LAST thing a website should focus on when trying to get other JW's to realise that something may be amiss with their religion is the Trinity.
