25,000 members, but there are a whole bunch more who come here every week to "look".

Yeah, Moshe. I'd guess that we have thousands, or perhaps tens of thousands, who lurk here. Everyday we add a few more newbies, it seems.

Also, as a witness, I was always suprised by the emphasis on corporate growth, when in fact the bible clearly states few are the ones finding the road to life.

It's interesting how some fundamentalist churches and faiths tend to find a negative spin for this statement of Jesus. I have come to understand this scripture as meaning that many people think God intends to judge harshly and punish or destroy the majority of humankind.

Likewise, few are the ones finding the real message of Jesus, of God's unconditional love for humankind. They find damnation in the scriptures the way the Pharisees did. Jesus understood how easily humans project their warped standards onto God and paint him a bloodthirsty, vengeful God. So the road for them is broad and spacious and they have a lot of company. Few are the ones who truly understand the loving nature of God and narrow is their road.

Not all are active members, as in posting. Some still read and rarely post. Some have left.

Plus there are many, many lurkers. Not registered but still read through the pages of this site. Every once in a while a topic will touch them in a way that they feel compelled to register and post.

I'm an x-jw. Merely 'inactive' - a walk-away believer - waiting for the organization to change. Until two years ago when I stumbled on to a few x-jw sites. I was terrified to even look at them but once I started reading... WOW I couldn't stop.

Welcome to JWD. Nice to have you join us.

As a newbie administrator, I was surprised to see there are about a dozen new registrations a DAY. A few of them start posting. The others are....lurking? ...typos?

Yes, this is definitely an active site, though I guess there may be a hundred posters actively posting at any one time. Pretty impressive for a mature board. One of the things I like about this site is the opportunity to speak on fairly pithy subjects. We don't just post about pizza toppings. There some pretty nifty thinkers in our group.

Leave with dignity. That's the key. No-one can walk away cleanly, allowed to maintain a relationship with family and friends still JW's.

It is not impossible, but in a lot of cases it is very, very difficult. More so, if you have active family members practicing. I was raised a JW and all my friends were JWs. So when I left, it was a bit of a shock. Eventually you get past that and slowly make new friends.

Then there's the people like me who came here for a number of months or longer, but didn't sign up until we were ready to talk.
