Here's an older one of mine...

You may go to five meetings a week

And knock on door after door

You may fancy yourself very meek

And righteous right down to the core

Your mind you may work hard to train

While you reach for the utmost in piety

You may feel you have much to gain

From some men at the Watchtower Society

You may study your lesson each day

And mix with only the friends

You may pour out your heart when you pray

To be on earth when life never ends

You may wonder why some go to college

To you it seems full of anxiety

‘Cause the only approved sort of knowledge

Comes from men at the Watchtower Society

Then you find at the close of your life

That the end never came as they said

Your children, you and your wife

Down a fine garden path have been led

All your life you’ve been sold quite a load

And you find with the greatest sobriety

That your brain had been fully bestowed

To those men at the Watchtower Society

Here's one I wrote a few years back, when I was challenged to improve on a Rod McKuen poem. I'd only been out for a year or two...

    Crosstown Bus

Well, after she was done telling me

about how she nearly lost her leg to an embolism but, praise god, the doctor agreed not to use blood and she's here today offering me gaudy magazines with stiff prose and flimsy pages --

Yes, the Creator spared her to distract me from you –

I said "No thanks" without explaining why, but she wasn't done yet:

She kept on trying to raise my eyes to her tinfoil God and his white bread paradise –

    I think –

As I tried to remember –

Tell me again why we broke up?

    Gag ...

My mother has one of those not so clever poems on her bathroom wall.....come to think of it, that is probably a fitting place for it!

I'll have to take a pic and post it when I am out there next month. Should be a fun visit. My 3 year old is already talking about Christmas (he's figured out the present thing) and he should be nice and vocal... I think I need to teach him a few Christmas carols!!

THE PARADISE TRAIN © By Ruth Bohonsuik We're on a forward moving train to Paradise, Whose passengers are booked for eternal life. However, some on that train get sick and fall asleep. They're sent to the sleep-car so they can rest in peace. They are still on our train, Riding with us - as we go. Our destination is Paradise, Only then will it unload. The Great Crowd is conducted off the train, Then Christ Jesus, our Master, speaks, To those in the sleep-car - "come on out," The time has come for the end of all grief. Our loved ones are finally awakened, And received with unspeakable delight, Known only to those who are faithful, And preserved through Armageddon's fight. The depth of sadness and grief once known, As promised, is matched by joy untold. Never again by death will loved ones be severed. Together we praise, the Great Jehovah forever. The things we will do! Ah! The plans we will make. Unhindered by illness, pain, sadness, or aches. Fear will be gone, that enemy death is no more, Are some of the things our dear Father has in store. In the name of Christ Jesus, your Only Begotten Son, We prayerfully thank you Jehovah, for you are the One, Who lovingly arranged for us to come aboard this train, That safely transported us, 'From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained'.

    Jehovah god is rather odd
He gives man gifts of freedom
But when they use it he gets mad
And chucks them out of Eden

He curses man and the sod
Eve gets to scream in labour
    And god's pre-fer-rence for sear'd flesh
    Incites the first murderer

As if all this is not enough
    He makes humans mortal
And sets to prove his petty point
That man should be more grateful

Then when man starts to achieve
    With mortal lives and frailty
    Governing themselves god sabotages
    With deluge and lingusitic diversity

    Jehovah god's a silly sod
    He doesn't play things fairly
Makes me think he might just be
    Made up quite entirely

    It's coming soon
    It will not delay
    Don't put off tomorrow
What you should be doing today

    Some have grown impatient
    Some have left us
    Some have given into sin
Yes, some have let Satan win

It is not an easy fight
It gets harder to stay focused
But, what can the world give me?
People are crazy, evil, swarming like locust

    Got to hang on
    I have to keep trying
I see the lost souls around me
Living recklessly, don't they know this world is dying?

    It will not delay
    It will come soon
    We'll look to see
A new sky, a new sun, A New Moon

Now I know why the authors remain anonymous for those silly poems . . I woudn't want anyone to know I wrote those either.

We're on quite a roll, aren't we? Here's a long one, but my favorite...

Had a long plane trip this past weekend (L.A. to NYC roundtrip,) so decided to write this piece. Hope you have the patience to read it. I enjoyed putting it together!

    --------------------

    "It's The Truth!"

I found them one day on my porch

Speaking words from the Bible, their buddy

These persuasive words lit a torch

It was then I agreed to a study

Just how should I feel? Were they for real?

Or just drunk on gin and vermouth?

Figured it was their dime, I’ll give it some time

And find out if this was “The Truth”

And so I embraced this endeavor

Many things I’d believed ripped to pieces

They told me I could live forever

Yes a world where life never ceases

There were dates they had found; it all seemed quite sound

Were they prophets or sayers of sooth?

Vengeance is mine; a composite sign

I think this just might be “The Truth”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    What better pursuit?

It’s God’s only truth, so they say

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

If it’s not just a ruse

I’ll get baptized the very next day!

To the Hall of the Kingdom I skate

    Watchtower with pre-printed questions

Answers there in the text, this is great!

Present truth; these aren’t just suggestions

There were more magazines with paradise scenes

Old ones going back to their youth

They said, “It’s God’s Word,” so I followed the herd

I guess they’re all right, it’s “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

    Meanwhile Brooklyn’s Governing Body

Found mistakes in all of their dating

    Foundational claims were all shoddy

    The tension was now elevating

Dear God in Heaven, there’s no six-oh-seven?

Nineteen fourteen now gone in a poof!

Said Knorr in his tow’r, “We’ll lose all our pow’r

To our story we’ll stick, it’s “The Truth!””

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

There were teachings on hell, soul and trinity

There was preaching to do door-to-door

You’ll live right up to infinity

If you put in more hours, so do more!

We’re right at the brink; don’t take time to think

It’s best to be “Steadfast Like Ruth”

“Don’t give way to doubts,” the Society spouts

Let’s all just believe it’s “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

Something shocking to fathers and mothers

    Barb Anderson saw secret files

Mixed in with the sisters and brothers

Tens of thousands of sick pedophiles

Protect human dirt, instead blame the hurt

With millions more kids to molest

    Had I been a fool? A two-witness rule

Guess the Watchtower always knows best

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Don’t give them the boot

Find reasons for letting them stay

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Those governing coots

They like to let pervs get away!

There once was a strict rule on blood

Transfusions, oh no, not a lick

Till the press started slinging some mud

And now for a magical trick!

Seems Bethel took actions, now we can take fractions

Yes fractions until we turn puce

Whole blood is the pits, so take it in bits

Just not all at once, it’s “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    It is absolute

So many are dead in the grave

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    The dead are now mute

"The Truth" from the Faithful Wise Slave!

For years the U.N. they would dub

Image of the evil Wild Beast

Up against this bad Beast they did rub

Till they were found out, what a feast!

Full fledged N.G.O, the horns they did blow

How could they be so uncouth!

A library card? To swallow was hard

But worry not, friends, this is “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

    Russell wrote ‘Beware org’nization’

Let’s keep things open and free

But the Judge liked to call down damnation

And list rules as tall as a tree

Listen to me, or dee-effed you will be

In our group you should find Social Proof

Your conscience we’ll bind, you can’t change your mind

We’ll shun you right fast; it’s “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

    Mental programming and Group Dynamics

Are effective but often cause stressing

    So many Jay-Dub alcoholics

Deep down find their lives so depressing

Keep your noses to grinders and put on your blinders

Drink a fifth of cold Absolut

If you’re badly blue, the fault is with you

It has to be, this is “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s drink to the Truth

Our lives filling up with dismay

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

Time to break out the hootch

We need to get numb right away!

Ray Franz had a Crisis of Conscience

Decided to lay down his cards

But the boys did express their abhorrence

“Evil Slave” and “apostate” they charged!

“Deep research” is taboo; they’ll label you too

Just ask Brother Carl Olof Jonsson

“Keep Your Eyes on the Prize”; accept all our lies

Or we’ll shun you from Spain to Wisconsin!

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

They don’t like us going to college

Lest Satan’s world should us seduce

It is only now that I acknowledge

It’s to keep us real dumb and obtuse

Keep dusting and sweeping, stay in our safekeeping

From birth till you’re long in the tooth

Don’t plan to retire; the end will transpire

Armageddon will come, it’s “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

    I bid every Jay-Double-You

    To give yourself full permission

    To conduct a thorough review

Of the facts and your mental condition

If you keep dismissing, you’re cognitive dissing

Inspect things as if you’re a sleuth

Research all the data, Alpha to Omega

There’s no doubt you’ll find the real truth!

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    It was never the Truth

    Captivated and blindwere our minds

Not the Truth, not the Truth!

So for you we will root

That a good life you one day will find!

    LMFAO @ HadEnuf's poem!!

Here's one I did not too long ago:

    Now I sit down at the Book study;

    I pray the Lord I won't go nutty;

    If I should die before we're through;

That's one less paragraph we'll have to do.
