Tes, but my parents never realy talked about it, mostly it was used to visit the now-jw sides of the family.,, being

    1) everybodies off work, good chance to visit

    2) it's too hot to bake a turkey in the summer

    3) it's cold outside and need heater on, might as well bake a turkey

    4) we always blessed meals anyway

Didn't celebrate for about twenty years. Then I found out all the other witnesses were baking turkeys. An elder even announced on Thanksgiving that we needed to be sure we stayed alert at the meeting if we were possibly tired from overeating.

I asked what was the reason for not celebrating anyway and a sister told me she just decided to throw it out with the rest of the holidays because it was easier. They don't have a real scriptural reason.

I sure do now and did the last ten years I was still a witness.

What was the argument?..........................THAT WAS THE QUESTION?.....................".Why can't we celebrate thanks Giving Mom" I asked my NAZIS JW mother..........."Whats wrong with thanking God"?....... I asked ...................."Well urrrrrrrrrrrr.........ummmmmmmmmm.......WE thank God everyday!" not just 0ne day a year"

We just couldn't do anything other people were doing was the bottom line................Even if there was really nothing wrong with what they were doing!

The thing was if we QUESTIONED one holiday we might question something else.....................God forbid.

Ok, I didn't grow up jw, but a couple years ago, so-called 'friends' were cooking that day and invited us and other folks from the hall over for 'dinner'.

How insulting it felt to see them cooking turkey and all the fixings yet encouraging me NOT to go visit my family (non jw) and do the same thing, just different walls!!!

Oh, it was a 'pagan' celebration if it was with them.

    Dear Thank-FULL Friends,

    1) All of the above.

    2) In order to not appear or sound like we were approving of the holidays, the JW-speak was "the worldly holiday _____."

    3) Tomorrow 3 buds and I, who are in various stages of spiritual decomposition (from WT standpoint), are eating, drinking and discussing where we are all heading religiously. Should prove enlightening. I'm bringing Ray and Randy along.

    4) Happy Thanksgiving! (can't believe I said that!)

    Full of stuffing,

    CoCo

We always had a Thanksgiving dinner in my house every year. My devout pioneer mother always used the excuse that because my dad was a non believer, she was only doing her part as a submissive wife.

    What a load of crap!
