New World or New System of Things

    Hi everyone, i'm seeking clarification again. When I was in the borg, the phrase the Wt used to call paradise was "the new system of things". I've read a lot of posts on here and I've seen a lot of "New World" and I never see "the new system of things" phrase. So I take it the language has been changed to "New World"?

    When and why did they do this? How did they do this? For the folks that were in at the time of this phrase change, what was the wts approach. Did they just slowly work the language in over a period of time or was it one week it was "new system of things" and the next week it was "new world"?

    Uses of 'New System of Things" in the Watchtower;

    He will soon bring about a totally new system of things—"new heavens and a new earth" in which pain, sickness, poverty, and death will cease to exist.—2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1. Watchtower 11/01/2005

    Let us now follow through with the picture there made. Jehovah’s Kingdom government, launched on troublous seas, will survive the terrific storm and flood of Armageddon and will protect all people of good will who take their stand for it and enter into God’s "ark" of his new system of things. Watchtower 7/15/1953

    Use of that term spans at least 52 years in the WT - prob far longer back than that.

    Uses of "New World" in the Watchtower;

    Enjoying this world to the full will hinder youths from getting "a firm hold on the real life"—everlasting life in God’s new world. (1 Timothy 6:12, 19) How have parents coped with the challenge? Watchtower 1/1/2005

    This decision will affect the eternal destiny of each individual. It will prove whether he is worthy of eternal life in a righteous new world or not. Watchtower 9/1/1953

    Use of that term seems to span the same period of time - 52 years. There may be a higher use of the term at various points - I will leave that to another poster to clarify. But the terms seem to be interchangable. They always were when I was in the organization- from 1960 till 2004 at least.

    So, not necessarily watchtower speak, but what do Jdubs say in conversation these days? Do they use them interchangably or are they now using "New World" more often?

    Actually there are others that were popular are have been dropped.

    New World Society--more or less dropped by 1965

    New Order--more or less dropped by 1985

    New System of Things and New World still persist and come and go in popularity.

    New system has dropped off since the late 80's in favor of "new world."

    One visiting Bethel speaker said they want to emphasize that this is a whole new world, not just a new way, or system, or doing things.

    When I was a kid growing up in the J W Congregation we looked forward to the New World that was so near at hand. Some years ago it was publicly stated that we ought to call it the New System (search me why!) a bit later still and we learned that it was ok to call it the New World and that seems to be the common expression today.

    NB . Call it what you will, it still never came

    My jw has never used 'new world' probably because I would emphasize the word 'new' not restored or cleaned up by jw's.

    I always called it the new system when I was a jw, but others referred to it as the new world.

    Whatever, it's not coming anyway.
