You can't be that unaware of the number of scriptures that proscribe pagan pactices. Of course, Christmas was a fourth century invention. But it is clear that early Christians did not celebrate the Saturnalia of the Romans or the Solis Invicti of the pagans. Rather, they followed the counsel of Paul.

"Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: 'The people sat down to eat and to drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry...." 1 Corinthians 10th chapter.

Why is it neccessary for someone to make it a point that they don't celebrate Xmas? Honest answer please. Really honest answer please. Why do you make it a point?

I am sincere in asking this. I understand a JW does this, since this is what they are told to do, but once you leave the JW's why would you want to make this a point. What is your motivation for doing so? I knew many Jews growing up, they never made a point of it. Why do you?

I make the point because it was part of the original discussion posted by Elihu/Elijah. I don't understand the intent of your question? Do you question the honesty of a person because you disagree?

Yes, I agree. A person can choose whatever he/she want to do. But the heart is often deceptive. Morality might be boring in comparison with immorality. But is immorality justified just because the heart leads one to it? It is obvious that many people are making wrong choices today because they allow their hearts to rule instead of their heads.

My intent is to understand why someone who leaves the JW's feels it neccessary to bring up their disdain for Xmas. Is it to spark controversy?. Is it to ilicit a particular response? Is it to show a superior attitude? If I knew your reasoning then I wouldn't need to ask the question. Is it that difficult a question to answer?

We also have had a very hard time making new friends because we still believe many of the Bible based precepts that the witness org., teaches.

I think this is your problem right there. When I left the Shitnoids I became a bouncer at a club, began smoking pot and experimenting with various other drugs, and had about as much sex as I could convince random woman to have with me. It helped flush all of those morals and other useless Bible trash out of my brain for good. Maybe it can work for you, too.

    Praise Allah!

I thought I had clearly answered your question by reminding you that it was the original discussion by Eliihu/Elijah. Is there something in this answer you don't understand? Or is it that you disagree with the response?

Now, I ask you: why did you make the point that you DO celebrate Christmas. Did you want to "spark controversy" with Elihu/Elijah? Do you want to "illicit a response?" Or do you want to express a "superior attitude?" I give you the benefit of the doubt that you do not. But since you asked me........

Thanks for illustrating my point about some who leave the organization. But I do pray that you do not end up an addicted drug user or plagued with some terrible venereal disease. In either case, the end result will tamper youthful boasts and reckless behavior.

Now, I ask you: why did you make the point that you DO celebrate Christmas.

I'm glad you asked. Elihu/Elija posted his topic on Novemeber 23rd, Thanksgiving Day, a holiday. I've known JW's who go out on service on Thanksgiving and/or Xmas knowing full well that people are celebrating their holiday and don't want to be disturbed and especially don't want to hear about how the JW's view the holidays as pagan.

JW's are the only people I have known who make a big deal about celebrating holidays. I don't feel that they are truly considerate of other people who wish to celebrate their holidays.

Like I noted before, I grew up with many Jewish friends and not one of them ever made a big deal about Xmas.

To me going on about not celebrating Xmas is a bit like passing gas in a crowded elevator....it spoils the ride down for everyone.

I am in agreement with you about the poor choice of JWs calling during the holiday celebrations. It is intrusive and annoying. I never understood why the Watchtower didn't use better descretion.

I never discuss my views about Christmas unless it is brought up in conversation as it was on this site. If a person asks me what I'm doing for Christmas I usually tell them I don't celebrate. It is the other person who usually wants to know why and asks more questions about my personal views. And, of course, it would be impolite not to respond. Most are fascinated by the information. I can't help it, though, if some are offended. They shouldn't ask.

I'm surprised that you pondered and commented on Elihu/Elijah's posting if you are offended by the topic. (It seems you willingly entered the elevator knowing the conditions.)
