Old WT literature

I'm been going through my files on the computer and came across a lot of those little booklets we used to hand out. Many of them were outdated. Well no they ALL were outdated. But we were encouraged to hand them out to people especially if they didn't want to contribute for the recent magazines.

Since they were considered "old light" I don't think any JW read them. I know I certainly didn't. There wqas too much recent litterature to take the time to read the old stuff.

We did the same thing with older books that the cong had too much stock of. Every year we were out trying to give these books away.

As X-JWs many of us are more interested in these older books than we ever were while we were in. I was reading a thread by Leolaia earlier today. A JW came in and pretty much blasted the posters for dragging up the old stuff.

When Quotes had his website up the WTS shut him down for making them look foolish by posting their own litterature.

They seem to get very defensive if we present the older publications for the world to see. But it is perfectly OK if they drag out this stuff and offer it to the people in their homes.

The WTS describes their publications as a "feast", "spiritual food". When the feast is old they are told not to read it. But they can feed it to other people

It's sort of like inviting people to dinner and serving food that you would'nt eat yourself. So you serve yourself the good food but your guests get last years rotting left-overs

    So appetizing

I think I know which "little booklets" you're talking about. They're about the size of a tract, but have a lot more pages, kinda like the daily text. In a way, it's too bad all my mom's JW literature went up in the house fire. I could've probably sold some of it on ebay for cash.

And I remember the whole "placing 192 page books printed before 1988" as the offer of the month in the KM. That always seemed to strike me as a bit odd, but after coming here, I understand that they were just moving stock. They could care less if the 1914 Generation teaching is still in those books, but they don't want their workers to think about that.

How many of those are on the WT CD library? I'd almost bet none! Anything they've taken off of that is for good reason!

I remember those campaigns where the old literature like these booklets were given out in multiples just to clear them out of stock. I always thought it odd that we would still distribute them when they were obviously "out of date" and contained information that was considered no longer appropriate. But that was before I realized that the whole Watchtower effort was a business venture. No wonder Rutherford termed the congregations as "companies" and the members as "publishers."

Do you remember when the monthly charts that were displayed on stage and discussed in length during the service meetings? One felt that it was a first class business meeting. Eventually, these were relegated to the bulletin board in back of the Kingdom Hall. It was also offensive when circuit overseers would come to the congregation and look over the publisher's record card to evaluate a person's spirituality. It seems that in their estimation it hinged upon "hours, backcalls and literature placements."

I remember it well. Wish I could forget.

It doesn't surprise me at all that some xJWs have gotten involved with Amway and other marketing schemes.

But the next JW that tells me we are wrong to post the old teachings will get an earfull (or eyefull) of their own medicine.

If it is good enough for them to give out at the doors for free, then it is good enough for us to post it on the net

I have some old books and stuff ,too. Like a 1920 WT magazine with the cross and crown on the cover. It's getting really old, so I don't handle it much. The WT has probably placed more literature over the years than McDonalds has sold hamburgers- but at least the hamburgers did some good.
